At least in my state, it's legal for a person to open carry a side-arm with no training on safety or operation. The possibilty of that becoming the norm in public is frankly frightening.
The people that carry all the time out of paranoia make me laugh a little, but if you've passed a background check (no violent crimes/serious felonies), and have proven that you can safely handle and operate the weapon, then it's no concern of mine. Two of my best friends carry almost all the time, and I've never thought twice about it as they're both upstanding citizens who are more than qualified to handle them.
