Egypt unrest

I'm very curious to see how the Israelis will react. Egypt is their biggest ally and they have close ties for many years. Given that public sentiment in any Arab country is generally anti- Israeli I suspect they are nervous about the possibility of a democratic Egypt. -
I thought it had been common knowledge about our dealings with Egypt for a long time. I remember reading about us putting him in 10+ years ago.Leave a comment:

Agreed.
Have a reasonable discussion on topic if you can. A tiny derail is fine if it's genuinely your opinion but you've done nothing but harrass this thread.Leave a comment:

Mubarak has apparently dismissed his cabinet and says he will form a new one (no doubt still fighting from his corner of course). He also defends the role of the security police in cracking down on the protesters:
Egypt's President Mubarak defends the role of the security forces in suppressing protests which have left 26 dead, as he dismisses his government but refuses to stand down.
Honestly it wouldn't surprise me. Looking back through history at all the other clandestine stuff we've gotten involved in, this seems well within the realm of possibility. It will be interesting to see if any more light can be shed.Leave a comment:

If you want to bash the administration over baseless claims and things that don't exist, make your own fucking thread. Stay the fuck out of mine.First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.Leave a comment:

I guess it's proof that absolute power corrupts absolutely. Thirty years later, our boy got too big for his britches, and now an overthrow.
Good to see the Democrats playing the games they accuse the Republicans of.
I've kinda grown to like the sly "world events" the Dems get into, opposed to the blatant "world events" that go down under the watch of the Republicans.Leave a comment:

If true that confuses me as to why this would have been backed considering we've been supporting them for some time now.Leave a comment:

Did you read that article? It was drafted and introduced by 2 senators (Rockafeller, D, WV and Snow, R, MA) not the President. And it went absolutely nowhere. So your claim of 'the president is trying to gain the power to shut down the internet' is false on 2 counts.

What's funny is this administration can sugar coat things and some people actually believe it. Refusing to add all the nonsense Obama and his boys have said and you get a bigger picture. No death panels?...LMFAO...read and understand his words....lol.Leave a comment:

Maybe so.
I see the government as a corperation, and Americas 1% wealthiest as the share holders they are working for. Thats not that "conspiracy theory-ish."
At least not to me.
Maybe I am a bit "out there," but I do not think that the government works for "the people."Leave a comment:

The US government is good at this.
It makes a lot of sens and sounds scary! What if China or some one hacked our internets and we could not shut it down! Oh nos! We better give the government the power to shut down our only ways of communication to keep us safe!I'm not opposed to it. If the US infrastructure (electrical grids, etc) is under a cyber attack and at risk or being severely damaged, I don't see why you wouldn't just cut off the source.
Fear is the best way to control people.
The government is just as scared of the American people as it is of out side threats, maybe even more so. We are at their doer steps.
The more laws they pas that make it easier for them to control us the better.Leave a comment:
