Do you actually believe the bullshit Newt says, trying to land votes from morons by promising $2.50 gas?
No I don't, Newt is just trying to buy votes. You can't dictate price when you are not the ones producing most of what you burn. Coupled with our currency weakening by the 24/4 printing press our dollar does not compete on the open market very well these days.

So you don't want him to artificially lower the price? ... Yet are upset he isn't?

Devaluation of the dollar is not the cause of the increase in the price of oil, global demand - primarily China and other developing Asian nations is.

              Volt production stopped.

General Motors has told 1,300 employees at the automaker's Detroit Hamtramck plant they will be temporarily laid off for five weeks as the company halts production of the Chevrolet Volt and its European counterpart, the Opel Ampera.

I'd rock that as a commuter car. Pity it doesn't have a 6 speed and a clutch though. go honda IMA!

                      That is equally as half-assed.

It's not ignorant, I explained this several pages ago. Simply put: if the gas motor is connected to the wheels or there is a transmission in the car, you're doing it wrong.

So the ONLY hybrid you think is worth making is a 4-motor-wheel EV with gas generator??!?

All the others are inherent crap?

So you want everything to be like the Fisker Karma? Badass, but 20mpg in range-extender mode... Not a great option for trips outside of 32 miles.

As much as I believe extended range EVs are eventually going to be the practical / common solution for most people (and therefore glad GM was the first to bring this to market mass-production), I still think there will be a need and see availability of parallel hybrids of varying degrees, as well as conventional gas vehicles with gas efficiency technologies. I don't think you are going to satisfy all consumer's needs by giving them all locomotives with just enough power most of the time to cruise at a constant speed.

I personally don't think the 918 RSR is "half-assed" and am excited by it. Further development and market availability of the ActiveHybrid vehicles as experimentation into electrification of cars like the new 3 series will be best for our knowledge and create better solutions in the end. We'll see if they can make flywheel accumulators practical for road-going civilian vehicles, but also very 'energized' about the 'potential' of capacitors.

The car industry can only benefit from multiple experiments and solution designs, which are cool and awesome. Poo-pooing something because it doesn't fit your model solution is limiting.

Through encouragement of many options and potential design solutions, ideas can be shared across and borrowed, creating better and more capable cars in the process than just narrowly focusing on only one.

I'm with this guy. Why on earth would you want a BMW with the engine NOT connected to the wheels? what would be the point?

Though I'd still rather have a bmw with a flywheel motor and a 6 speed...
