    Who pays taxes

The newest tax numbers you can get from the IRS is 2008.

There are a bunch of write ups on these numbers. I looked for one with the least political view point as possible. In this there is the link to the IRS. The IRS is a lot of downloads Worth it if you want to see all the IRS numbers. Here we are talking "just the facts" not the hype.

2008 numbers Top 1% pay 38% and earned 20% of the adjusted gross income.
2004 numbers Top 1% paid 36.9% and earned 19% of AGI.

The top 50% paid 97.4% of all taxes.

This is why making them pay even more will drag this economy down further. We simply need to create more jobs so the lower 50% isn't using the Federal Government to fund their life so much.
Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

Then I hope you 2 guys dont cash or spend your tax returns this year and send it all back to the govt.

Pay extra in then if you think its your patriotic duty and the govt can spend your hard earned money better than you or the charity of your choice can.

I pay plenty, and wouldn't mind it really, if I felt like the uber-wealthy actually paid the same percentage as me. The tax code is 70,000 pages, and I don't have huge piles of cash with which to hire a small army of accountants and tax attorneys to find every possible loophole. Seriously, I don't think those guys take a shit without finding a way to write off the toilet paper.

History has shown us that the rich don't go on hiring sprees when they get tax breaks. They just get richer.

Well good for you, I prefer to keep as much my hard earned money as I can, govt is wasteful and woefully inefficient with money. Feeding the pig is like giving a crack head a suit case of the shit, it leads no where good.

Then our country might as well call it quits now. If we don't feed the pig, no one will. And that goes for all party members. People forget that the government is us and we are it. It fails... we fail, and vice versa.

So many Americans now are about keeping every single dollar they can, no matter how many dollars they currently have... hoarding didn't do any good in the great depression and it won't do any good if the country goes into bankruptcy.

The ONLY way, and I repeat ONLY way, out of our current predicament is to cut spending AND increase taxes. PERIOD. I don't like it, you don't like it, democrats don't like it, republicans don't like it, independents don't like it. But it's the only solution to our problems. And I mean ALOT of our problems. Energy, wages, taxes, everything is so expensive now because our dollar isn't worth as much as other currencies.

                        This.

Also, while the top tax rate may read "35%" in the book, actual payments are closer to 17% due to loopholes.

Which means you, me, and nearly everyone else on this board pay a higher tax rate than all those millionaires and billionaires out there. The same ones who are sitting on their money, doing nothing with it because they don't want to take any risks.

Fuck them. Rich people don't create jobs, companies do. Cutting tax rates for rich people just means they get richer, as was PROVED by that Willamette Week article. Spew all the speculative theory and GOP party lines you want, the numbers don't lie. We've had 30 years of GOP-backed "supply-side" economics, and look where it's gotten us. Stagnate wages, crushing debt and record unemployment.
