They did "quieting", revised rotor blades, revised tail rotor, stealth exterior (smooth, no rivits, with an alleged special coating), etc. It still would sound like a chopper, but you wouldn't hear it until about 200 yards out.

There is an existing rotor blade configuration (not used in civililian aircraft because its expensive to manufacture that can all but eliminate the outward wake turbulence leading to the noise you hear when the helicopter is not right over your head. SO that just leaves what you hear when it is right over your head. Flying that low you wouldnt hear it until the last minute and what you would hear wouldnt sound like a helicopter, more like a light aircraft.

The military even blows up stuff that is perfectly useable as well because of the cost of bringing it back to the states/maintenance/etc.

Or in this case they wouldn't want the technology to fall into enemy hands. Its been SOP for any advanced military for years.

Im starting to think that we wont release the photos of OBL because they probably dont look like him any longer. Every article I read, describing his compound, states he had very little access to anything outside of there. No one came and went. The joint was self sustained. I wouldnt doubt he looked like a fat old man sans beard, or maybe had facial surgery. If the President released photos of someone that didnt look like OBL circa 2001 (the photo in everyones minds), it would create even more skepticism for what happened last week.

Oh I totally agree with you on that one. It's ridiculous to blow up something that is perfectly usable. Hell, give to to some Iraqi school so they can have power during the (frequent) blackouts. I bet UPS could ship it back for less than $50K lol.

It's pretty awesome too, just hang around Dobbins AFB, or Lockheed Martin for a little while and you can witness it. The best are the Cobras, the come at you and you can't hear them at all, but when they pass, all hell breaks loose at once.
