Its goal is to prevent multiple dwelling buildings (law changed from five or more to three or more) from completely burning down, and possibly preserving portions of the building as well as occupants/belongings.

Of course there are probably some buildings/instances where it doesn't seem applicable, but on a wide scale it's easier to make one mandate.

There is no attempt to put an access box on a single family home.

What exactly do you think their motives are, besides saving lives and property? Do you really, truly believe this is some kind of Orwellian attempt at a takeover of private citizens homes? That they're trying to gain access to everyone's house so that they can do.... what exactly? You completely ignored all my legitimate questions in your response. "Oooooh shit a mandate. Better run to the bomb shelter!!" Like I said, do you think we should get rid of smoke detector and sprinkler 'mandates' too? Would that make you happy? If it's not about the children, what's it about then? You conveniently left that part out.

The conspiracy theories you guys come up with blow me away. Mother Theresa could ask you for donations and you'd shoot her in the face while accusing her of being a commie spy.

Even the fucking FIRE CHIEF thinks it's a good idea. Seriously, what possible problem could you idiots have with making it easier for the fire dept to save lives?? Is it because of the big, scary word 'mandate'? I guess we'd better not mandate smoke detectors either. Or sprinklers. Or fire retardant in ceilings. Would that make you happy? No more mandates. All the children burn to death in their homes and you get to keep your $250. Conservatives rule!!

Do smoke detector, sprinkler or fire retardant mandates have the chance of violating people's rights?
Or is it the usual...you think taking people's rights away as long as "it's for their own good" is acceptable?

Do you think the fire department is going to open the lock box so they can open a door so they can then start putting a fire out?
How hard is it to be able to see that a fire is actually raging...considering it takes seconds for a fire to consume a single room?

How many doors have they broken down investigating an alarm?

Back when a good friend in High School was beginning his training they had master keys too, it was either an axe or a ram. Shit worked good, you didnt even have to stop to put a little ass key in a hole.

It could be up to a homeowner but its about spending $200 on EVERY house or risking a $200 door repair on the houses that actually have an alarm with no response (ours alerted and we never got the call, they knocked and we opened so the firemen could look around for the cause, was a false).
          Im now E30less.

Again, you haven't answered any of my questions. What exactly do you think is going to happen with multiple-family dwellings are equipped with lock boxes? Rampant looting by firefighters? Breaking into their homes and raping them? Which completely implausible Glen Beck conspiracy theory is causing you to freak out about this?

It has nothing to do with 'rights', no where in the law does it say a firefighter may not enter your home in case of an emergency unless they break down the door. And especially since this law deals ONLY with multiple-family dwellings, it is aimed directly at landlords. We're not talking about homeowners here. It's not like it's their land, their property, their house, their lives and their choice. The landlords have a responsibility under the law to keep their buildings safe, including fire protection. This rule is simply part of that, and it's the law. You don't like laws? Move to Somalia. For you to accuse the fire dept of some kind of back-door mass robbery scheme is ludicrous.

And what does that have to do with lock boxes? You just found an article about looting that happens to involve firefighters, it's not relevant to this discussion. I can find articles on looting by in-home care givers, should we get rid of all of them? I know I can find instances of plumbers, re-modelers, carpet cleaners and maids stealing from homes too. Want to stop them from entering homes?

^ Abuse of power you dolt. And you want to give them more. How long until this mandate puts keys into the hands of LEO's, effectively removing their need to have probable cause to enter a secured property?

And how long until they modify the multifamily portion of the law to include single family dwellings?

So what you're saying is that by passing this law, Police will soon have the power to enter anyone's home at will without warrant or reason? :loco:

Seriously, you guys need to take a step back and look at how ridiculous these conspiracy theories are. You're forgetting every single other law that protects homeowners and privacy, such as the need for search warrants. It's like having a discussion with a bunch of anxiety-ridden paranoids.

Tru Story, A cop walked into my gated, locked property because a dog was barking and he construed it as a crime being committed, thus he didn't need a warrant. Because of a noise ordinance.

And then he had the gall to ask me for all my identification, and date of birth. I declined to continue speaking to him, he then threatened to arrest me for not aiding him in an investigation.

I told him that his bullshit was not going to work. I knew he was fishing for data to search for potential warrants, or probation/parole, so he could continue searching. Then he got pissed and I told him to call in a superior. Then he began backtracking when I brought up the noise ordinance he was trying to utilize was for 10PM to 6AM, and it was about 1130AM.

                            He promptly left.

And pulled me over two days later and detained me for over an hour. Ran my info, saw I was an upstanding citizen. Then gave me a ticket for 57 in a 55. And never showed up in court to face the judge. It was dropped.

See cops never abuse the increase of power Government keeps giving them.
Them being able to use lame excuses to run your info is clearly for our own good. Because everyone is a bad guy till proven innocent.
