I don't think it's a good idea to be selling our defense technology in these amounts to any other country. That includes Israel. Specially if they could be used to kill civilians in unstable areas of the planet. Like Egypt for example. The real problem is we need to stop paying countries to be our buddies. There's no good reason that I know of that that factory is in Egypt and not in the US.

And there you go again not even being able to stick to your own standard. You accuse others of being trolls and here you are being a troll. I love it. You really are pitiful.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

why it was assembled in egypt with parts made here. I think the reasoning is quite obvious.Comment

Thats ok, they'll buy it from somebody else. Better yet, they'll develop or steal or buy the technology and sell it to anybody else. Heck the Chinese and the Russians are dying for a few more exports. As for the factory, if it wasn't it wasn't building Abrams, it would be building T90s. At least this way we have control over how much technology goes into their tanks.
Good let them buy someone else's technology. And we keep not only the technology but the jobs. The countries that have the ability to steal our technology or build a factory to build don't need to build the Abrams.
That's a good point. Being able to control what goes into the tanks we sell them. But we could do that here.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

And what's that?
Because we're allowing them to keep them. I've communicated I don't like that idea, unless it's in small numbers. Which we could ship to them. Yes they can be shipped.Last edited by joshh; 07-11-2011, 10:30 AM.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

Sure, I bet it's lots cheaper to ship a 150 ton fully assembled tank than doing it in parts. Especially the security part. Don't have to worry about that at all. Just make sure you get insurance and don't forget to put your return address and phone #.Comment

A few things to point out.
First, the Abram isn't exactly high tech. It went into service in 1980, and we still use it as our main battle tank. But the US having a main battle tank is like Switzerland having a Navy, borderline pointless. US technology goes into making sure no tank ever crosses the ocean to our soil, and making sure we can reach across that vast ocean and touch others. Tanks don't serve either of those goals very well.
The rest of the world uses tanks, because the rest of the world is more likely to engage in a land battle than a sea battle. Because the rest of the world uses them, the United States is VERY good at destroying tanks. I'd hate to know how fast our airforce could turn 125 Abrams into rubble if they saw fit to do so.
As for "American jobs", we are selling to them parts made by us, no? This increase american jobs, not lowers them. Far better than when you make a trip down to walmart.
As for selling our defense technology to other countries... News flash many united nation countries are using our gear. But it's rather irrelevant, since I think even the combined power of NATO would have a difficult time trying to invade the United States.
And while I'm sure we know just about everything about "enemy tech", we know even more about the stuff that we designed. No guessing games as to where the weak link is, we already know :)-------------------------------------------------
