There are borderline lunatics on both sides of the spectrum. There are militant atheists who think that all religion is a plague on the world and that it should be exterminated through force. Ignorance breeds ignorance, and hate breeds hate. Education is the solution.
Absolutely not! Look how bloodthirsty man religions are. Religion is simply a tool to spread one ideology who's premise is relating to a deity. It's about pushing what they claim to be true, nothing more...nothing less.Comment

I despise all theistic religions equally. I don't think Islam does or should get a pass. Religion should stay out of government and schools and I also don't think government or schools should try and be tolerant towards religious ritual when it interferes. I also don't see why they get tax breaks. That makes no since to me whatsoever. Religion is the single worst thing ever invented.sigpicComment

I like this quotation:

Religion now comes to us in this smiling-face, ingratiating way, because it’s had to give so much ground, and because we know so much more. But you’ve no right to forget the way it behaved when it was strong, and when it really did believe that it had God on its side.

Shake off all the fears of servile prejudices, under which weak minds are servilely crouched. Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call on her tribunal for every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear. - Thomas Jefferson
Say nothing of my religion. It is known to God and myself alone. Its evidence before the world is to be sought in my life: if it has been honest and dutiful to society the religion which has regulated it cannot be a bad one. - Thomas Jefferson
I never will, by any word or act, bow to the shrine of intolerance or admit a right of inquiry into the religious opinions of others. - Thomas Jefferson
The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods, or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg. - Thomas JeffersonOriginally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.

This isnt a dig at anyone. Its purely an observation. I think everyone is entitled to an opinion, but I would just like to see where people are coming from.
I dont get why now everyone thinks they have religion figured out. What makes the last 50 years so different than the entire rest of the time man was alive? Are we now somehow more keen than our ancestors? Fuck I think my generation is the biggest bunch of fucking morons ever and this is who is forming an opinion about religion? The same people who bitch and moan about their apple scrolling feature is now inverted?Ma che cazzo state dicendo? :|Comment

Not sure I understand your point - is it that people are dumb? That's not news. Is it that more people are claiming now to "have it figured out"? I'm not sure that's true.
EDIT: I kinda digress on my last point. A lot of stuff that couldn't be explained in the past (and was therefore chalked up to the supernatural) is now explained. Thanks to the information age, this news also travels further and quicker. So perhaps there are more skeptics now than before.Last edited by Bill 84 318i; 09-01-2011, 02:41 PM.Comment
