Hey, a God created the earth can count himself responsible to discipline His people. IF you had kids, would you not discipline them?
Ahh yes, one of THOSE church vans

I agree, entirely. The Lord Of The Rings is just as plausible as Christianity. I don't believe that garbage either. However, if Tolkien/Peter Jackson went around killing and torturing everyone that rejected it as truth, after a few hundreds years it would be just as widespread as that Latin propaganda known as Christianity. After all, that's how they spread their system of control.
LoL. True that.
But you can't just say christianity. All of them are whack as bawlz.
Also Islam was spread with the sword. Same as Roman paganism beating celtic paganism...but they kind of merged together. Meh, moot point.
So I'm planning on becoming a religious individual, but I need some advice on what religion to turn to.

Well, except that the dates of the original texts that were found correspond w/ the dates that certain major historical happened in the texts. basically, the dates of when the texts were written down line up with when the major events in history happened, proving that your theory is incorrect. Im out for now, goes ta get me some sleep.
The fact that some pieces of papyrus that had writing on them that no one can read were found DOES NOT prove that the religions stemming from the Israeli area have any sort of weight, or hold water.
All those writings can prove is that there may have been a "this" at "this" time, or "someone" did "something" with "this result."
Fact is I could write down some BS, and bury it, and then some knob of an archeologist could discover it in 500 years and believe whatever I wrote.
Think the Mormon Episode of South Park? Yeah, just like that.
Those scrolls also don't PROVE Hey'zeus was the son of some deity. Or Brohammed talked w/ Allah. Or any of that shit.
Fact is you can believe whatever you want to believe. You are in control of your own mind. If it helps you be a good person, power to you. But you should expect people to challenge your beliefs, just like I'd expect you to challenge the beliefs of an "atheist."
I don't really know where I'm going with this. or why I care to type this shit out....it hardly effects me what you, or anyone else believes. But actually it does effect me, and others.
That van's decals are an example, the baptist knobs are an example. Muslim extremists are an example. The IRA. so on...
Question;
Weighing the scales would we, humanity, be better off with or without large organized religious groups?
Hard one to answer. I'm sure the species would find a way to kill eachother, and be general dicks to one another just as well w/o it.
LoL Atheist Otters...
I'm going to bed.Comment

^Update: People are trying to have a rational discussion about religion, which is impossible, because religion falls outside the realm of reason and logic. I give it to page 11 tops, unless God wants more than 11 pages, then he will "inspire" his followers to drag it out a few more pages.sigpicComment

I haven't tried to pass off anything as factual nor does science for the most part, YOUR incompotence in understanding what the science does leads you to believe that is the case. That is not my problem, and you're not going to use your stupidity against me.Comment

Dude, all you do is talk. You keep talking about links to "scientific proof" and text books which contain proof, yet we have yet to see anything. And the only text books relating to this that I've seen just talk about it the way you do, presenting the theory with no hard facts to back it up.Comment

What do you want, references to dozens and dozens of journals which serve as the evidence for textbooks? I'm not going to be doing that, so stop expecting it. I truly don't give a damn if you're unwilling to accept my suggestion for you to go out and do some learning on your own will, I don't expect you'll do it. You've shown me that you have very little understanding of both evolution, physics and astronomy with your simple minded comments like
What set about that change in energy to create spontaneous life?Ok, so that stills makes as little sense as, Oh! well, we just waited a long time and all of a sudden a bunch of acid bases appeared! So what does that make somebody who believes that the world just exploded into existence? Just curious.Last I heard, the only proof they had was that if the conditions were absolutely perfect you could create some very basic chemicals by the same process of the "Big Bang"Comment

I should add, textbooks like used in schools for the most part do not contain the hard evidence, the data to fortify theories. They explain the theories and then provide references to where the data can be found, and that data is easily available both online, on campuses or even public libraries depending on how well equiped they are...if you're in a city you'll definitely have access to them. For every university level scientific text you pick up, there's literally tens of thousands of pages of fortifying evidence.
It's like back in school with math class where the answers were in the back of the book. You can show the teacher the answer all day long, but it's worthless unless you show your work. The "work" so to speak, is available if you're willing to access it.Comment

Christianity threads are always humorous. It just doesn't make sense. It's a convenient thing for weak people in my opinion. My life sucks right now it is god's will. Something good happened it is god's will. The list goes on for me but it's a childrens story. Easy for a child to believe but when you are an adult how can you read this story book and sit there and go "Yah that makes a lot of sense". Fast forward and apparently beating and stoning your wife... oh wait we ignore that. That is old school. We made this New Testament that is easier to swallow...
Don't get me started on the ones that are all high and mighty because they are Christians. Like that has some sort of high place in society.
I make my own life. I push hard to get where I want to be. I don't rely on a fake guy in the sky to help me along.
And finally... thanks to the wonderful George Carlin who says it best. God is all knowing. All powerful. Controls everything... but he needs your MONEY! Lots of money! Give the money to the church so they can spread the word of god... and keep control of the sheep.Comment

I respect your beliefs. Doesn't mean I don't think they are crazy. What you say about donations is true but it's not like it is not like the church is not an excellent salesman... I grew up in a Christian household. I went to confirmation. I stopped going because it gets ridiculous.Comment

Normally the money crazy churches are in Cali and other rich parts of the country. Im not talking about small churches, I'm talking about the "Super Churches", these are complete breeding grounds for the self righteous and they're basically companies. Its pisses me off. Those people really are just trying to make money. They're like the Scientologists of the Christian world.
On that note, these "high and mighty" christians seem to be that way b/c they seem to think they're no longer sinners or do evil and blah blah blah. You're not perfect if you're a true(or any kind of) Christian. Its quite sad.Comment
