Seriously QFTMFT! As long as no one is telling me to believe I don't tell them how I feel.

I recently moved down to VA, and had my first mormon door ringer. I happened to be cleaning my e30 in the driveway while under the influence and had quite a fun chat with the 2 guys. (both looked to be 19 ) And to my surprise they didn't push that hard but were more interested in why I did not believe in God. I cant claim that I converted them to sanity but I feel they left with a bit more understanding.

She has to be one of the biggest walking, bible thumping hypocrites I’ve ever seen. I really struggled and still struggle with believing, as I see so many in the Christian faith act hypocritically, with church fights, pastors having affairs and their families turning out so poorly. People all though history have used religion (nearly all of them) to oppress their subjects. But then as anyone can call themselves any religion they want, I had to look past the people in the religion, to the truths of the matter. Everything that exists came from somewhere. Such as me, I was made by my parents. This desk was made by a tree and other people. And my shirt was grown in a field then woven and then sold to me. Nothing comes from nothing. So I have to believe that there is a deity that started this whole thing.

But on the other side, no one was there to see the Big Bang or God create the universe, by our own scientific method, neither can been proven as a fact, both must remain theories, even if 90% of the world believes something, doesn’t make it true. After all people believed that the world was flat longer than the idea of a big bang has been around. The only thing we can do is look at what we have and weigh the decision.

But probable the thing that pisses me off the most is when people use any religion, even atheism as a crutch. There was this fat ass disgusting slob taking up the whole end of the row I was sitting in church in last week, an old man asked if he could sit on the end. She turned to him and said “no I am sitting on the end, get another seat.” I got so mad, wanted to deck her. EVERY religion has this idiots and rude people. Look in your heart and if you feel that you don’t need a God and life is final in death, then make the most of the days you have, so that you influence the world for the better. But for me that wasn’t enough @19, so I didn’t jump, step back from the edge of the bridge and changed my life.

Here is a short list of why I don’t believe in the big bag.

In NO way would I consider Atheism to be a religion.

One thing that was the defining push away from Christianity for me was my uncle. While we visited them (relatives) in Hawaii (awesome other than him). All he would do was preach to me and my brother. So much to the point that we had to leave their house or he wouldn't shut the fuck up. I was only 13 and had enough. We started making fun of them when they had their bible studies on Sundays.

That's when I learned there had to be respect both ways and to leave people alone. If you're going to preach to me I'm going to take that as an open door to speak freely. And yes I will end up offending you with my view of Christianity if you're going to push the point.

your first statement, is straight lies, I have seen so many Athiests trash out on Christians it is rediculous to say it isn't true, Athieisim is just the newest religion. lol

Catholics ARE Christians, and I find this statement Laughable, Catholics in fact were the OG Christians.

I think when you speak of dangerous and rude Christians, you are actually thinking about the evangelicals/born agains who in my experience are some of the bigest Douchebags going.

by the way, I am not a church going christian kind of guy, but lets call a spade a spade...

If there are people being turned off from religion because of other people then they're doing it for the wrong reasons. Christianity has morphed into this very legalistic type of religion in the world where there are far too many specifics of how to live our lives. People whom have had 'authority' on the subject and over long periods of time have misconstrued the religion into a bunch of do's and dont's.

I talk to a level headed pastor just for conversation's sake about religion. Perhaps change the filter you hear/see Christianity as.

Saying that I would consider myself aethiest and more inclined to think that we were made by aliens than believe in one god. When people of faith use tell me how ridiculous the big bang theory is and is the main reason why religion is the only truth then I know I don't have to listen to that person anymore because they perceive the world through tunnel vision.

Pureaudio, thats great to hear that you are shopping around for ideas because of your gut. Remember that even though we live in a world with perceived absolutes, nothing in life is that way. Humans have an extremely narrow and small time frame in the history of the universe that I think that its silly to limit yourself to such human and earthly boundaries.

                  .
Atheism will never be a religion. If you see people abusing the idea of atheism as such then you just can know that they are as feeble minded as weak christians.

Not lies, speaking from pure experience. Most athiest will trash out against christians becaue we arepersecuted. I was outcasted as a child because of christian and catholic parents forbidding their children from being around me and my baby sister. We didn't harm anyone but because of the "infalible" viewpoints of the religious community, I, along with my other bretherine are deemed the "untouchables". This is how it has always been and as soon as anyone I have any sort of a relationship who is religious finds out I'm athiest I'm immediately cast out, persecuted, or attempted to conform. Don't try to defend an entire people just because YOU don't act like that. I have known many people like this, so your defense for YOURSELF is outweighed by my experience with hundreds of people.

                        just no.

how about, death is the absolute end so we have to make this life everything we can? because when it ends, that's it. and we should all hope that when we die, we dont die with regrets of a life unfulfilled.

What sort of things would a devout Christian be missing out on that would cause life to be unfulfilling?

Letting their religious beliefs affect and perhaps prevent them from living their lives, doing things they'd like to do but can't?

I don't know what kind of ultra orthodox shit you were brought up around man, but I was raised SURROUNDED by Catholics, multiple Protestant denominations, etc and no one EVER shuned me or my freinds because of our religion, or lack of.

perhaps you should be more pissed at your community man, your area appears to be fucked up.

And for a fun fact for those who don't think catholics nd christians who aren't dangerous and our quiet dislike for the religions have no reason, athiests were executed in medeival britain for "blasphemy".
