          I would imagine there is a defining difference between being overweight (kinda pudgy) and obese (yous gonna havta buy two plane tickets). By that standard I would say 2/3 is a modest estimate.

            Correct, but it's a little more scientific than "kind pudgy" ;)

            At our center they are coded as below- Though I know different centers move the morbidly obese line around a bit to accurately represent surgical risk due to weight at that center.

            Overweight = BMI > 25-29.9
            Obese = BMI 30.0-34.9
            Morbidly Obese = BMI > 35

                I hate that scale because according to that scale I'm obese. I'm 6'5 and 240 lbs. I work out 3-4 times a week, I work hard labor and need to be this big. I have a tummy not a gut and according to Bmi, I'm obese. Find me an obese person who do what I do then I'm fine with the scale.

                    According to Kershaw, everyone fits the scale. Now be a good citizen.

                      The scale may be fucked up but the underlying issue is. People need to abandon the BMI because it doesnt properly account for muscle mass.

                      However, look around. Do you think most of the fat people in your town are full of muscle? This country is on a very quick march. Little kids are getting adult cancers and are turning into little Wilford Brimleys because they are a so fucking fat. I dont need a scale to see that someone is fat, if anything is folding when standing (hell, I can make it look like I havea gut if I scrunch up) then you have excess fat.

                        I calculate your BMI at 28.5 (M, 240lbs, 77", @ 26yrs)

                        According to that scale your Overweight which is not the same as Obese, or Morbidly Obese. Nor does it reflect poorly on you at all.

                        Overweight, Normal, and slightly Underweight are just fine and can be perfectly healthy depending on a person's lifestyle and amount of activity. (My wife's BMI is "overweight" but she works out and has more muscle than most women her age. She just ran a 1/2 marathon at a sub 10min/mile pace so I doubt anyone would call her out of shape.)

                        If you were Obese your physician should likely kindly suggest that you up your activity level, and manage your caloric intake in an attempt to lose a little weight, or he may refer you to a dietitian.

                        If you were Morbidly Obese and came in for a non critical surgical procedure you would receive a handful of papers to sign and a talk from the surgeon about the increased risk of operating on you.

                          Sadly I probably am judging by what is popular anymore.

                          My dad/step mom ran marathons in their 50s (had to switch to biking because their bodies couldnt take it) and are hardly unhealthy. Its not really that hard.

                          Hell, even in college when I was living with people younger than me I was still, in most cases, easily the most fit. Primarily because I chose other activities besides marathons of TV shows or COD all hours of the night.

                          20 minutes a day of cardio can greatly impact your health. That is shorter than any TV show even if you took out the commercials. Sacrifice one shit show (most americans get 3+hrs a day) and not only will you lose weight and improve your cardiovascular system but you will also sleep more effectively, giving you more energy for the upcoming day.
