I'm not saying that necessarily they should have committed him, but let the local LEO's know about the committees concerns would be justified. Or have another Psychiatrist evaluate the guy.
Believe me I know about the slippery slope too. It's infuriates me because all it takes is one "nut-job" or headline seeker to ruin our way of life. Because we all know how the "Knee-jerk" politicians will try to pass legislation for "our safety".Comment

He also gains additional notoriety and press. He can claim special rights and privileges that members of other faiths do not while in custody. Do you think regular inmates get advised on map points of compass directions? He has gained the right to know where to pray towards Mecca, and may, or may not gain additional items other inmates may not, including prayer rugs. He is smart because he is taking advantage of the system, and gaining sympathy.
