Chick-fil-a

I don't agree with using Social Media to collapse, or attempt to collapse a business because their beliefs don't jibe with members of a minority portion of the population. -
That's more likely hypocrisy than irony. I wouldn't make it illegal to think that way, even if I don't agree with it. I'm still wondering who thinks it's a good idea for the city of Boston to attempt to make it difficult for Chik-Fil-A to operate a legal business there.Leave a comment:

The irony is conservatives protest a community center because they hate a religious group, yet get upset when consumers refuse to purchase from a company based on a political stance they don't agree with (And one which the company KNEW wouldn't be popular)Leave a comment:

I don't see what the big deal is. If he doesn't want to sell cake he has to deal with the public. He has the freedom to refuse service and the public is equally free to protest. Also, it amuses me that it's called "Lakewood" cake shop. The owner does not seem to be living his best life now.Leave a comment:

Wasn't that the original question?Okay guy who just wants to ride the bus in Montgomery and wandering what the whole big deal is about. . .
It's not a surprise and people were already upset about the donations from CFA to organizations who opposed same-sex marriage... but in the past the company had denied that it opposed same-sex marriage. Then the CEO spoke for the company and said it did (and admitted it might be unpopular)... then people who hate gay marriage get upset that people find the move unpopular and boycott CFA...
Are you saying that people shouldn't be able to "vote with their wallet"??Leave a comment:

i believe rwh already responded to you, quite adequately. however i wanted to ask your opinion of something....Dan Cathy was simply asked, as a citizen, not as the corporation, what his beliefs were and he expressed them. Then, because of Controversial media and him being the CEO, tey wrote the stories in such a way where they depicted him speaking on behalf of the corporation.
if a reporter asked Obama (his personal view as an individual) what he thought of white people and Obama said they are the reason America is failing because God hates them and they run the country. what do you think would happen?
i'll tell you what will happen. a fuckton of people will be really really pissed off. see that's the downside when you are in a position of great power, you dont ever really clock out. you make a shit ton of cash, have a lot of power, and are ultimately seen as the face of the organization you run. and when you donate company money to hate organizations, yeah... that's not really personal opinion anymore is it?
please stop being so black & white / narrow minded. it's already been stated in this thread that he is entitled to his beliefs, but that doesnt make it any less of a horrible business decision to voice them.Leave a comment:

So Chick-Fil-A doesn't support organizations who work against same-sex marriage? You've got some ass coming in here and making statements without the raw facts. I'm not going to read the whole topic but I was outraged at your own ignorance in this above statement.
FIRST OFF. CFA has never claimed anything. Dan Cathy was simply asked, as a citizen, not as the corporation, what his beliefs were and he expressed them. Then, because of Controversial media and him being the CEO, tey wrote the stories in such a way where they depicted him speaking on behalf of the corporation. Somewhere along the lines, something was twisted as Dan never spoke on behalf of the corporation, and CFA is an equal rights employer.
Your going to compare CFA to the Klan? WTFreak?
On what grounds? Because you don't believe what the CEO, and not the corporation believes, so your gonna look for little coincidences in the situation an twist it for your point? That's like saying you don't like someones dad because he hates Jews then comparing his kid to Hitler. What the heck does his kid have anything to do with this..?
Freak, I even work at CFA and one of my shift leads is gay. Get over yourselves. It seems like everyone on all sides just wants something to fight about
Those are profits from sales going to support organizations that customers might not want to support.A report from LGBT advocacy group Equality Matters concluded that Chick-fil-A donated more than $3 million between 2003 and 2009 to Christian groups that oppose homosexuality. In 2010 alone, the company gave nearly $2 million to such causes, according to the report.
And did you actually read the interview with the Baptist Press??? HE IS SPEAKING FOR THE COMPANY, not just himself. Or did you just get the second-hand opinion of pro-CFA media, and didn't read the actual source? Pretty sure the Baptist Press didn't write the story to make the company look bad - he did that on his own.
Well, it seems that unpopularity has caught up to them. And now they are trying to backpedal...Some have opposed the company's support of the traditional family. "Well, guilty as charged," said Cathy when asked about the company's position.
"We are very much supportive of the family -- the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that.
"We operate as a family business ... our restaurants are typically led by families; some are single. We want to do anything we possibly can to strengthen families. We are very much committed to that," Cathy emphasized.
"We intend to stay the course," he said. "We know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles."
Going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena," said a statement from Don Perry, the company's vice president of corporate public relations.Last edited by rwh11385; 07-30-2012, 02:16 PM.Leave a comment:
