Kershaw, And that's ok, nobody said that my way of thinking was the right way. That's why we share thoughts and feelings. However, getting heated isn't going to spread your views across any easier or make them even more valid.
I'm actually losing a good friend to aids right now. A part of me is mad at him for hiding it but then again I have no right to be angry. We talked a good bit about why he went gay and he told me about his younger experience. He also wished that the guy that put the idea in his head was never around and he would live his life happy and with a family. I honestly don't know what to think. But it does make me question, is it ok? Is it normal?

Once again, this is why the thread is here. Inform the biased and ignorant. Shed some light.
Not that it matters but, gays?

First off, that is not the thread I was talking about. In the thread I was talking about, without any specific reason, a father just thought he should write a letter to his young children about how it was ok to be gay. And yes he was right that it is ok to be gay, but he should not be going out of his way to preach to his young children who don't have any fucking idea what a gay person is. You're seeding ideas into their heads when they should be worrying about arithmetic and how to catch a baseball. Second, you're completely misunderstanding what I was saying. I never said we should hide gay people from kids. I don't hold that view in any way shape or form and I didn't even imply that in any way. The fact that you THINK that is what I was saying shows that you continue to misunderstand my view. I am saying that parents should not be in the business of encouraging their kids to be either gay OR straight, especially at the age of 8.i read that post on reddit. he wasnt encouraging his kid to be gay. the kid simply asked if 2 guys can be together or 2 women. the dad simply said yes, if they love each other. the kid said ok. i didnt see that as encouraging anyone.
not to mention, your argument is completely nonsensical. society is all about normative behavior. you cant have a society without encouraging what's considered ok. we just have to make being gay a perfectly ok norm in society. it's getting there. sexuality is not entirely a personal thing. it's a very social thing and it involves more than just 1 person. sexuality is based very much on the society you grow up in.
yes, im taking this seriously. denigration of a group of people is not something to take lightly. sleeve knew this off the bat how this was going to end. you cant simply say, "i think we should hide gay people from kids." and then say it's all just lighthearted fun. wtf is that? how is that going to make gay kids (and some know they are attracted to boys from a really early age, like 6 or 7) feel socially accepted? it's not. they're going to feel like they dont belong.
Sexuality is a personal thing, like religious beliefs, and encouraging one view over another puts unnecessary pressure on kids to conform to what their peers want. And it's not just the religious whack jobs that are guilty of encouraging heterosexuality, the gay community is guilty of encouraging homosexuality as well. This is very prevalent when you hear them speak of bisexuals as "confused" and when you hear them encourage certain people to "just come out of the closet already".
My point is that people need to just shut their mouths about what is morally right, and what their particular opinion is. Their opinions don't matter one bit. If you don't like gays, then don't be one. And if you don't like straight people because they procreate, then be as gay as you want and don't make babies. No one should have any authority over the sexuality of another. Quite frankly, a discussion of gay rights and morals and taking sides on the matter just perpetuates the issue.Last edited by LBJefferies; 10-11-2012, 06:07 PM.Leave a comment:

I really dont care about gay people , not in a bad way i just see them as just other people that are trying to happy , they are no different then the rest of us. I have gay family members and while they are not flamboyant gay they are still gay. i Just see them as just another member of the family, they are car guys too ,both of them had E30s in the 90s to which i think is awesome.Leave a comment:

It's a pretty serious subject, people will get hurt and offended, it's like racism or religion, you are gonna have some very different opinions and its pretty impossible to have a conversation about it without some people becoming heated
Personally I'm a live and let live kind of guy and don't really care who is with who as long as they are happyLeave a comment:

Kershaw, I feel that you might be taking this too serious. It's all opinions here. Not to offend or bash.

I am saying that society should not be encouraging either way. Sexuality is an entirely personal thing.fail poll is double fail for lack of rob. i agree.
how about you not look? im pretty sure they dont appreciate some dude gawking at them. germany has this great social policy that basically amounts to, if you looked, it's your own damn problem.
since the research lends itself to saying that homosexuality is genetic, you can tell your kids being gay is fine all you want. it's not going to make them any more or less gay.
lbj, why should society not encourage it? is it harmful to society? are we suddenly going to have an ikea deficiency because there are too many gay couples and not enough trendy furniture stores? gay couples tend to be better educated, wealthier, and they adopt. so i dont see a bad side, some kind of strain on society, that they are emitting that you would say to not encourage it. maybe it's because they cant reproduce? that's great. we dont need more people. but we do have plenty of babies given up for adoption.Leave a comment:

and if everyone should have their sense of equality, why are you making a big deal about it? that's not equal. i havent seen a poll option about those straight people, that are currently overpopulating and fucking up the planet.Leave a comment:

the best friend thing happened to me. being his best friend, I didn't need him to come out to me. I already knew. When he did, it didn't change a thing in our friendship.Leave a comment:

^^^That's exactly how I feel. They are people and they have rights. They aren't any more weird than I am male. Everyone should have their sense of equality.
As far as the young kids, I wouldn't agree with what he did.Leave a comment:

If you have a friend of family member that is gay, or may be gay, you just treat them like a human being because that is what they are. I don't wonder if everyone I meet is straight, and I don't wonder if everyone I meet is gay. It really doesn't matter either way.
But society should by no means be encouraging it, especially for children. Someone posted on Reddit the other day about how he wrote a letter to his 8 and 9 year old boys explaining how he would be supportive if they were gay. Everybody was telling him he was a good parent and so on and so forth. I thought it was terrible. Why are you putting pressure on your child to choose any sort of sexuality when they are 8 years old? A good parent wouldn't pressure their child in any way, and let them come to the conclusion 100% on their own. And if they were a truly good parent, their child would know this all along and would never need a letter to inform them that you are supportive.Leave a comment:

I didn't say it should be behind closed doors.^ called it. getting on white horse right now...
you say you have no problem with it, but then you say it should be kept behind closed doors. that's pretty dumb.
you are a bigot. you might not be WBC, but you are.
also, your poll is not very well thought out. how about some options for supporting gay rights. i'm not gay, but i wholeheartedly support all gay rights. include the right to walk around in a pink bikini with giant fucking pink wings and acting all sassy.
freedom, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Let me re-word it.....
I don't appreciate when straight couples kiss and touch in public.
This should end well as long as people don't go ape shit on the topic. This is a calm and cool thread and should be a good way to voice opinions and share thoughts.Leave a comment:
