First off, that is not the thread I was talking about. In the thread I was talking about, without any specific reason, a father just thought he should write a letter to his young children about how it was ok to be gay. And yes he was right that it is ok to be gay, but he should not be going out of his way to preach to his young children who don't have any fucking idea what a gay person is. You're seeding ideas into their heads when they should be worrying about arithmetic and how to catch a baseball. Second, you're completely misunderstanding what I was saying. I never said we should hide gay people from kids. I don't hold that view in any way shape or form and I didn't even imply that in any way. The fact that you THINK that is what I was saying shows that you continue to misunderstand my view. I am saying that parents should not be in the business of encouraging their kids to be either gay OR straight, especially at the age of 8.
Sexuality is a personal thing, like religious beliefs, and encouraging one view over another puts unnecessary pressure on kids to conform to what their peers want. And it's not just the religious whack jobs that are guilty of encouraging heterosexuality, the gay community is guilty of encouraging homosexuality as well. This is very prevalent when you hear them speak of bisexuals as "confused" and when you hear them encourage certain people to "just come out of the closet already".
My point is that people need to just shut their mouths about what is morally right, and what their particular opinion is. Their opinions don't matter one bit. If you don't like gays, then don't be one. And if you don't like straight people because they procreate, then be as gay as you want and don't make babies. No one should have any authority over the sexuality of another. Quite frankly, a discussion of gay rights and morals and taking sides on the matter just perpetuates the issue.
