    Questions

I often wonder about what goes on in other peoples' minds and in the world, so I'd like to hear some straight up answers.

If you are religious, what religion do you practice and why (or what does it do for you)?

Who was directly effected by the recession? Since it happened no one I knew and no one I've met since lost their job because of it. I know (hear) many people did, but I just want to hear directly from someone who did.

Who is currently unemployed? I don't know anyone who has had the slightest bit of trouble finding work since the recession hit. Has anyone had trouble, or do they know people who have legitimately had trouble (not just aren't trying).

Everywhere I've seen failure in our economy, it was well overdue and no one should have been surprised. I've only seen abundant opportunity before, during, and after the recession. Everywhere that failure is going to occur in the future, is very clear, yet nearly every day I see people supporting it, even when they know they're walking towards it.

Anyways, these are just some questions and observations I've made. Any answers would be fantastic, thanks.

Raised in the church. I quit. I just do for me and be a good person. Karma def exists.

I am affected because shit is expensive and that means less money for me to spend on other things.

Employed. Switched jobs during the recession.

I was surprised as I live in a shell and don't watch the news, etc.

    I fucking love fantastic answers.

Nope, don't see a need for it personally.

Who was directly effected by the recession? Since it happened no one I knew and no one I've met since lost their job because of it. I know (hear) many people did, but I just want to hear directly from someone who did.

On my 4th employer (by choice) since the recession started and have mangaged to switch careers and nearly double my income. My dad lost his job when the tobacco companies moved away from the smaller warehouses to bigger chains for distribution. But he was about to go on disability anyway for medical reasons.

Who is currently unemployed? I don't know anyone who has had the slightest bit of trouble finding work since the recession hit. Has anyone had trouble, or do they know people who have legitimately had trouble (not just aren't trying).

Employed, don't know anyone who is unemployed. Then again, I don't really know anyone who doesn't have a degree or isn't self-employed.

Seems as though people are less and less willing to work hard.

Family was Christian. They're hardcore nutty right wing religious fanatics. Hasn't seemed to do them any good. Just saw in the paper yesterday my cousin got arrested for driving with suspended license and without an ignition interlock device (you know, those things you get for too many DUIs). Aunt is a meth addict. Another cousin shot himself in the face while drunk. and on and on and on.. but they have no problem preaching morals to others.

Going to church doesn't make you a good person any more than standing in the garage makes you a car..

I don't think anyone can say they aren't affected, even if they didn't lose their jobs. there have been negatives (things are more expensive) and positives (opportunities at work) for me. On the whole the economy is still hurt and it will take a long time to recover from the massive economic destruction that all the bank fraud caused. except the bank fraud is still ongoing.

Who is currently unemployed? I don't know anyone who has had the slightest bit of trouble finding work since the recession hit. Has anyone had trouble, or do they know people who have legitimately had trouble (not just aren't trying).
I made a niche for myself in 2008. in 2009 we laid off something like 300 people. we were 600 people at our peak in 2008. yeah, that was a bit scary.

If the success or failures of things are obvious to you then you should be investing every dime you can because you'd be a very very rich man. the truth is nobody really knows what will succeed and what will fail. It's made even worse by all the financial fraud that still hasn't completely stopped. Even if you think your money or investments are safe, something pops up it seems every other week about a ponzi scheme or massive fraud by a big bank that wipes out investors.

This week it's Wells Fargo. Massive fraud at the top level. They were supposed to be one of the "good" banks and escaped major damage from the financial crisis. Except there's no such thing currently as a large bank that hasn't commited fraud at a very high level.

Slammin, I'm pretty sure if I was someone who watched the news I would've actually been surprised.

Did the recession really cause prices to go up, or is the continued drop in the value of the dollar that has been going on for a long time? I think the driving force behind behind our declining dollar is the simple fact that America doesn't produce anything any more. 90% of our goods come from China and Indian so certain people can turn huge profits while only making those large sums of money increasingly worth less.

I have had many people switch jobs during and after the recession for completely unrelated reasons. My friend for instance got fired for grabbing a girls ass every day, but maybe the recession made him extra horny? No, but he got a new job the next day. I was working an okay job at the beginning of this year and got fired because I stood up to and undermined my regional manager's bullshit for the last three years of employment, unrelated to recession completely. Yet, within three days I had two of the best job offers of my life, and two months later I had two brand new jobs (on top of the two I took after being fired initially).

Banks and stock investors are simply gamblers, and the ones who are in positions to really fuck things up are gambling with huge sums of money. The games are also rigged and controlled by many of those same big players, and trouble was destined to come eventually.

I can't see the future, but I make observations, calculations, and when enough facts support a hypothesis, I can feel pretty sure about it. For instance, when it comes to investing every dime I can, I am in the process right now. One company I plan to invest in is going to see steady growth over the next two years and their stock will slowly grow with it. Then, at around two years from now they will see a massive spike in growth, their stock will shoot up, drop down (as people sell to make a profit), and then steady out much higher than it was and also on a fast upward trend.

On the other hand, I know of entire industries that are riding on thin ice right now, and they are going to see major turmoil much sooner than people expect (actually, I think some people are completely ignorant to it). It's going to be a nasty collapse too, but in the end good for the world.

These are just my opinions though, maybe I'll be completely wrong, and maybe cigarettes are good for our lungs?

          Let's hear some more stories.

Born again Christian. An ex drug addict and alcoholic, I turned to Christ after AA, NA, in-patient rehab, out-patient rehab, and jail didn't work. Christ did for me in one day what the others couldn't do in ten years.

My wife's hours have been cut each year since 2008. She took a 3% pay cut in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

                I am indeed, I am a Non-denominational Christian
I don't conform by the views of society, I am not "religious". Loving God is a lifestyle and believing what he did for me/us is faith.

It is not what I get out of it.

I am a contractor, so I am affected because others were affected. If they are hurting I hurt, they are my work.

I found a decent job at Martin-Brower. They are the distributor for Mcdonalds. I make $13 and hour which isn't absolutely terrible but it's not the best. I consider good for not having an education and only being 20, also considering minimum wage is only 7.25 i find my self very fortunate. Yesterday General Motors opened up referrals and i got one in their, they're hiring 160 people, jobs are out there people are just lazy.
I'm not religious, don't care about that crap.
My parents are having the worst time finding jobs, they also worked in the automotive industry, (parts supplier for GM) and they got laid off and haven't been able to find a decent job in the last 3 years.

Please, make a point and don't be boring, but seriously :) that statement you quoted definitely wasn't the end-all answer, the problem has many factors.

So F34R, you believe that a Christian God created us, Jesus died for our sins, and for that you are grateful, end of story? Do you go to church or practice any form of.. anything?

Markseven, what about Christ made such a big impact on you? I'm glad to hear you found a way out!

JA1991, 13/hour isn't bad at all. Sorry to hear your parents are having trouble. What do you/they consider a decent job?

America is still the #1 manufacturer in the world.

Not to mention, we produce most of the good stuff, medical tech, vehicles, etc.

Not throwaway electronics and toys like the Far East.

Everything I'm finding says China is the number one manufacturer in the world, and has been since 2010. However, you are definitely right that we produce medical equipment, vehicles, airplanes, movies, drugs, and fertilizers. Even if we were manufacturing as much as China, we aren't technically. The way they rank which countries are manufacturing more is based on the value of those products. So even if we are producing more product in terms of value, we are producing far less actual product, and the products we produce involve an incredible amount fewer people. Most of the products we produce involve a large amount of automated work to reduce the number of actual people working.

You also have to think, if you were to get rid of everything you own that is not made in America, you wouldn't have much left. The vast majority of items in the American household are made elsewhere, mainly China.

Eh, this is going no where, I'm just uselessly ranting now.
