Ol' George Washington couldn't see the future. As far as he knew, citizenry and government would always be on relative firepower parity. But it hasn't existed for over a hundred years. It's time to find a different way. I don't care how much ammo you have, a 30MM cannon firing up to 5 rounds per second is going to ruin your day. Unless you are independently wealthy, you will NOT be buying, maintaining and supplying ammo for a few of those for anti-aircraft duty, or maintaining a supply of SAMs.

The small limited government of Washington's day is long gone having been replaced by one that is storing all of your communications, monitoring your banking transactions, and travel....they are not "skeered" of basement armories. They can quickly freeze your ability to communicate. And drone operators are not afraid of being fired upon.

I am curious to know why you think there will be an Apache knocking down my house, VERY VERY VERY few self respecting US service men or women will follow such orders. You remember they swear an oath to defend us, not kill us, they have a duty to not follow orders that put them in direct violation of that oath.

Or is that why we are now put on terrorist watch lists if we heritage seeds for our gardens, make large dry good purchases and photograph buildings? This way they can just call us terrorists and have some kind of justification around the posse comitatus?????

Next it will always take boots on the ground to make it happen. Look at fucking Afghanistan for chirst sake, the Russians tired for 10 years to take that place, we have been there just as long and had marginally better results. Those people dont have Helios, an ariforce or armor to counter act our modern military might. (tinfoil hats say thats why we have been there so long to give our forces experience to use at home) They just have some old Junk AK's, the occasional druganov, and some RPGs we gave them to fight off the Russians. Yet an ill equipped, piss poorly trained, rag tag band of locals has been able to route arguably the most powerful military in the world in the 1980's and has been able to do much the same with the other and now undisputed, most powerful military in the world with even more high tech shit for the last 10 years.....................................

We live in an era of warrantless surveillance, indefinite incarceration on the suspicion of terror....

These soldiers would likely be told that you are a terrorist cell preparing a military strike against the sovereign government of the US. You think they are going to disobey orders?

Do not fall prey to the idea that our government's weapons and abilities are not advancing faster than we may imagine. Our weapons in the '80s, like those of the Soviets were designed for large scale attacks on large targets, not interdicting small bands of committed fighters. We have gotten a lot more proficient at tracking subjects by EM and IR emissions, lately! We now have unprecedented information storage and handling abilities. This gives us enhanced situational awareness tools coupled with the abilities to fly armed missions with expendable aircraft flown by remotely located pilots. The need to actually send foot soldiers into many areas where they were once essential is decreasing rapidly. The possibly unintended goal of all this is to take the "human element"-the stress of what it is like to face one's enemy and pull a trigger, out of the equation.

These are the types of forces home armorers will have to cope with in the near future should the government want them "gone".

Quite frankly I actually find it a helluva lot scarier than soldiers climbing out of APCs on my front lawn....those drone strikes are not as precise as claimed at present and are causing a lot of collateral damage.

You act as if I dont know all of this. and the drone thing is something I have been harping against for a while now. I agree with your assessment in a lot of this to a point, its not that I dont see the possibility. I just have a little more faith in my fellow citizen than you it seems. (IR tracking and surveillance is something I have been thinking a lot about in my down time lately)

Ok your right we will get a few "terrorist cells" knocked out, you really dont think all those guys in green are going to smell a rat eventually and prolly fairly soon out of the gate. Remember Waco and Ruby Ridge still have left a sour taste in the mouth of both the govt and the general population.

This is why I have always said if this kind of shit is ever so ordered on US citizens, there is one of 2 things going to happen, it will be carried out by non native personal, that will eventually be opposed by US military that cant stand to watch it anymore. Or the "fight" is going to be within the military itself, fought between commanders that will follow orders and those that will not and those that will remain loyal to one side or the other.

There is writing on the wall all over the place and ignoring it totally is the folly of a fool.

its what mar1t1me does every time this conversation comes up. It works like this EVERY TIME

                Someone cites 2a

then some says milita and part of it or muskets and 18th century arms

I or someone explains it about 8 times

then mar1t1me jumps in some where to tell us that we dont have drones and tanks and Apaches that the govt is going to use on us, so in his mind we should not need to have firearms/ military look a like firearms. Nor should we have large stores of supplies for them because we will never hear the missile that is going to kill us.

Then you witness the conversation above about twice.

Mar1t1me thinks because we should not have such firearms to defend our selves from a govt well overstepping it bounds (the primary reason why the founders wrote the 2a) since the govt is just going to kill us all that wont capitulate anyway because our military will be used against us. So since the original intent of the 2a is not valid any longer (in his mind) due to our large standing army of fools that will blindly follow any orders given to them. So since original intents is no longer valid (again in his mind) there is no point in you have a firearm anymore, ignoring the fact you still may need to defend you self from criminals and other predators.

I get that about right ????

Are you in the military, do you even know what the predominant attitude is like amongst any first world military? We're here because of opportunity and some of us a sense of doing good for ones country. To think we blindly follow orders without utilizing our own sense of morality is ignorance. You think soldiers are going to turn their weapons to their own families simply because someone with a few bars told them to do so? I'm willing to bet your simply posing these questions to challenge the pro-gunner's justifications, if not....wow.

Easy on the military guys. Most I know, including my self served our country cause we take pride in the freedoms we have here snd served to help keep those in place. I'm sure just as some civilians blindly do as they are told some in the military would also but don't generalize it makes you sound ignorant.

NRA calls for armed school guards as U.S. mourns massacre

(Reuters) - The powerful U.S. gun rights lobby called on Friday for armed police in all U.S. schools within weeks as Americans remembered the victims of the Newtown, Connecticut, school massacre with a moment of silence.
                          ...
LaPierre said the news media and violent video games shared blame for the second-deadliest school shooting in U.S. history.
                          ...
LaPierre did not take questions at the news conference.
Why do we tolerate these idiots?

I heard somewhere that is going to cost 1.something billion, just for one cop in every school. What is he gonna do all day, sit in his car and eat doughnuts? I haven't done the math, but I bet using the frequency of school shootings versus the number of schools, the odds are infinitesimally small that one of those cops will actually be needed.

However, if teachers had CWPs and carried on their own free will, ta-da! No money spent, no one sitting around eating doughnuts.

                            Come on, NRA.... think!

Until a teacher snaps and takes out a class room full of 6 and 7 year olds because he's having a bad day. Then the NRA will tell us that we need to arm the 6 and 7 year olds.
