Arizona Republicans are trying to keep atheists from graduating high school

i've seen so many bullshit scare will-never-get-passed posts here i've decided to post my own.

they are proposing a bill that forces you to swear allegiance under god, or have your diploma withheld.

    this will never get passed.

of course, it's ridiculous that they even propose this. and if it does get passed, it will have the under god dropped.

I think its ridiculous as well

But I also think its ridiculous that children no longer say the pledge every day before school starts too.

DO you feel that every time some one says the word god, or has a reference to faith that they are trying to force their beliefs on you or something ???? The intolerance of most atheist's I am noticing for those of faith is getting similar to that of the baptists for the homos. Way to practice what you preach

So you agree with the OP that it's a ridiculous law, then bash him for being intolerant of the ridiculous law. Nice.

No, I am asking him if thats how he feels. because he has a penchant for bashing and be belittling anyone that happens to believe in a deity. While I agree with him in this instance and in the lack of divine creator, I am just not as militant about it, and dont get but hurt every time I see god or religion somewhere

Everyone who is vocal about atheism seems to be militant in your eyes.

Also, isn't an oath supposed to represent something, dedication, honesty? To me it seems to be completely against the purpose to take an oath and swear to something you don't even believe in for the simple sake of keeping tradition or pleasing someone else.

No its called respect for others beliefs, The exorbitantly vocal atheists are no better than the in your face bible thumpers that push their beliefs into the face of others that dont want any part of it.

I'd side with you - but I haven't seen anyone proposing a bill to keep christians from graduating high school.

You have never heard of the silent majority have you. And like Kersaw says this will never pass not. Not even in Oklahoma would it get though. Almost all Politicians are out of touch, most of the blue ones are as well, to the point they are trying to find a way to back peddle out of this gun control thing, with out losing face.

true but anytime there is anything to do with any form of religion in a public display they take to the courts and SUE SUE SUE because it must burn their eyes.

Like I said I agree this is a stupid idea for a law.

No, they take it to courts because it's more often than not the majority trying to push their beliefs onto the minority. It has to go all the way to court because it takes the law to step in and keep the majority from strong arming their way to getting what they want, usually contrary to what is allowable.

Also, quite often those lawsuits are because schools are trying to order students to comply with standing and reciting, something which many courts find unconstitutional. For someone who is so faithful to the 2nd amendment, you should accept the others as well.

Yes the memorial in the shape of a cross to those lost in WWII on a hill top on BLM land in NM or is it AZ that has been there for 50 years is just such a push of the majorities views on the minority. Or the life size statue of Jesus that sits in a mostly out of sight area on a ski hill in MT that sits on a NF lease and has been there for 40-50 years or a small plaque of the 10 commandments on UT court house step, is also just such a push..

So those ones which you find to be unreasonable somehow negate all the legitimate ones where the courts upheld the constitution and dismissed things theists were trying to push onto everyone else? I won't claim that there are not some extreme atheists, but when subsequent court visits uphold the same judgement do you still blame the atheists for not sitting back and taking what they and a court do not find to be reasonable?

Also, please explain how holding an opinion and being passionate about it on a forum dedicated to its discussion is militant. Because if that's the case, we've got quite the group of militant e30 owners up in here.
