    continue pointless argument
Ummm I unless something has CHANGED BIG TIME in the last 18 months you are very incorrect According to Gallop in June of 2011 92% of Americans believed in some kind of god.

More than 9 in 10 Americans say "yes" when asked the basic question "Do you believe in God?"; this is down only slightly from the 1940s, when Gallup first asked this question.

Its just that the amount of people out there that do not associate with a organized religion or dont part take in the whole church thing, but still believe in god are going up, WAY up. And more people are being less aggressive about their beliefs, with others. This coupled with all the media attention the SUE SUE SUE atheists get when they get the panties in a wad over some minor display that has been there for 75 years suddenly offends them.

Welcome to Arizona, I didn't vote for single republican or career politician. Our state is trying to one up the looney contest.

As for sleeves pledge issue, Jehovah witnesses also don't pledge to the flag; it's not just the asshole standing up for separation of church and state atheists. Our obsession with everything American is really weird.

As I said I mean only from the standpoint of organized religion.. I would argue however that orgnized religion is the exact reason why less people are willing to be labeled or associated with Christianity as it is seen as a bad thing

What are you talking about? The overwhelming majority in the US do consider and label themselves Christians.

Buying into that snake oil you've been fed by RWNJ media that tells you you're being persecuted and in the minority much?

I'm a Christian but I usually get pretty pissed off when any laws or policies are enacted with a religious belief or value as the motivator, ANY religion. Laws that give the right to not participate in things (within reason) is OK because that's protecting someones freedom to their religion of choice, including the choice of no religion.

I really am not trying to turn this into a national dick measuring contest, but my honest observation is that religion, be it a politician's views or association with an organized religion or religious freedoms is much more important in the US compared to Canada. I couldn't tell you the religious beliefs or backgrounds of any federal or provincial politician here.

yeah i know, right? on one hand, sleeve is all, "keep your hands off my guns, the government cant tell me what to do." and then the next minute he is all, "i think it's ok for the government to tell people what to do."

doesnt make a damn bit of logical sense. especially for a self proclaimed atheist. "yeah, im ok with lying and false testimony."

also, to everyone trying to argue against, would you be ok with hindu religious documents (and no christian, none whatsoever) and plaques all over your courthouse or school?

why is this any different from saying, "so help me Shiva"?

or, heaven forbid, "so help me Allah".

DO you feel that every time some one says the word god, or has a reference to faith that they are trying to force their beliefs on you or something ???? The intolerance of most atheist's I am noticing for those of faith is getting similar to that of the baptists for the homos. Way to practice what you preach
you do realize the pledge of allegiance is a cold war leftover that has it's origins with Mcarthy, right?

I'm glad my kids won't have to do that crap.

No it's not? The "under God" bullshit most certainly is, but the pledge of allegiance was written before the 20th century.

                            you know what I meant.

ironically, the original pledge was written by.. a socialist.

I don't think these atheist really have a problem with the pledge itself, as long as society is willing to remove the word "GOD" for them and their disbelief.
