L.A. Times says it was a single shooter:

District of Columbia police say they are no longer looking for other gunmen in the mass shooting at the Washington Navy Yard on Monday morning, indicating that the 11 victims of the attack were all killed by a single shooter.

Federal officials have identified the shooter as Aaron Alexis, a 34-year-old government civilian contractor from Fort Worth, Texas, who was new to the Washington, D.C., area, according to a law enforcement official who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the investigation. He may have used the identification badge of another person to gain access to the base.

I've got a close friend who used to work with me here at the Navy EOD base in Indian Head, MD. He relocated to the Navy Yard and was in the building the shooting was occuring in.

We have regular communications and during one of our emails today he responded:

"Just heard gun shots. Building lock. Bye."

He's been keeping me in the loop while the event has been taking place. Our base went to FPCON BRAVO status along with a couple others in the local area. Pretty sure its an isolated event, but they're taking some extra precautions. We currently have a few people up there right now, but they've reported that they're okay.

    Navy Yard Shooting

At least nine people are dead after as many as three shooters dressed in military style uniforms opened fire in a rampage at the Washington Navy Yard on Monday, police said, spreading fear and chaos across the region as authorities tried to contain the incident.

D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said in a mid-day news conference that one of the suspected shooters is dead, while authorities are looking for two other suspects wearing green and tan military style clothing.
