Of all the dumb things said in this thread, this is by far the dumbest.who gives a flying fuck? if you don't have anything to hide you shouldn't be concerned about being searched.

I thought the problem is that the kid thought it was COOL to be searched and have a bomb threat called in.
NOT COOL.
It's this reaction that is a problem. That kid should have the shit scared out of him after that.
Also, see reasonable cause.Drive it hard. Maintain it well.

Interesting. A lawyer can easily have that throw out. During a pat down the police can only reach into your pocket if the object they feel from the outside is thought to be a weapon. A small baggie of weed in a pocket doesn't constitute this, so it's not permissible.
Your right to search and seizure is limited in a school; as a student. Many court cases have set precedent on this. Also, if they patted down every student this would be allowed as well, since there was no discrimination on which students were patted down and which weren't. This is much like a DUI check point. As long as the poilce stopped every car, and are in a place and time where a DUI driver is likely to be found they are okay to do so.

An how would you feel of the cops had not searched the students, one of the students had been armed with a bomb, and that student killed your brother?
There is no way in hell for them to know if the threat is real, and if so who has the bomb. They must take the threat seriously, and must search everyone.sigpic

So what If an anonymous call comes in that a kid has a gun? Would you guys who are bitching be upset that they searched all the kids? I bet you would be upset if the cops came, left and the kid pulls a .38 out of his pocket and starts smokin kids left and right? Really, find something else to be upset about...This ain't it....If that were my kids school I would thank them. Police can't win either way...Comment

Searched without reasonable doubt? Lol...Did i miss the trial?? Maybe probable cause or reasonable suspicion?
Detained? Due to a lock down cause of a bomb threat? Lol There is an emergency exigency clause to the 4th amendment..Read Armijo v. Petersen.
So many fails here...
It's crazy to me that you are "LIVID" about a situation where the only information you have is from a 15 year old...It sounds like you have not looked into it at all to get facts. You have just enough info to be upset. Emotion + lack of facts....not a good look.Last edited by LSM3; 03-22-2014, 02:26 PM.Comment

(Removed quote due to irrelevance)
You assume too much.
How does a random call justify a physical search of each and every student in the school? There is no probable cause or reasonable suspicion to treat every student as a suspect, sorry.Last edited by Exodus_2pt0; 03-22-2014, 02:50 PM.No E30 ClubOriginally posted by MrBurgundyAnyways, mustangs are gay and mini vans are faster than your car, you just have to deal with that.Comment

Straw-man argument. Safety and fear-mongering are issues independent from personal liberty. An how would you feel of the cops had not searched the students, one of the students had been armed with a bomb, and that student killed your brother?

You read between the lines. Reasonable suspicion of breaking a law trumps all. There was no reasonable suspicion that every student had a bomb. It's like stopping every person on a road that is within 100 miles of the Mexican border and interrogating and searching their personal property. Oh wait...I guess you're all cool with that too?Comment
