As for the rest of the comments calling the kid spoiled and entitled and whatnot, all of those things seem like they could be true, but they don't cause someone to go on a killing rampage. Mental illness does.

Edit 1: And I'm not defending this kid at all or trying to excuse his actions. When mental illness is mixed up with temper tantrums or being spoiled and entitled, these people don't get psychiatric evaluations and sometimes harm others. Cancer is not (usually) the fault of the person who has it.

Here's the thing, I bet a lot of us were losers (now we're super cool and shit) but we didn't kill people, Right? Because we aren't mentally ill. Doesn't this make sense to you guys? Or do you not believe in mental illness? Or is it more comforting to just think he's a loser, because being a loser is somehow a choice and mental illness isn't?

By your logic, every child that is spoiled and/or neglected could potentially go on a killing spree. I can tell you that there would be a lot more killing sprees. There are kids right here on r3v that were spoiled and neglected and don't kill people. (Hint - they are not mentally ill, just spoiled)

You just watch how guns are gonna be blamed for and the whole situation will be politicized, instead of looking in the root of the issues and draw a lesson for all! I don't believe it happened to him in the last 8 yrs as he claims, I bet parents noticed some weirdness about the dude but chose to ignore or maybe didn't pay enough attention or it was too late... Blaming guns is just as ignorant as blaming his parents methods or the fact that he was a lame loser. When we, as a society confuse mental illness with being a looser or being spoiled, it causes the general belief that being mentally ill is shameful. Thus hiding it and/or ignoring it and hoping it will go away to protect the image. When society realizes that it is more like cancer, in that it sometimes just happens to an otherwise "normal" person, it will cease to be stigmatized and more people will be unafraid to admit feeling crazy, and hopefully go out and get some help, instead of going out in a blaze of gunfire (edit: or a garden sprayer full of gasoline or whatever violent method they choose).

Does that make sense?
