Is nobody talking about whats going on in IRAQ?

maybe Im upset because Im Assyrian and they are getting royally fucked in this whole situation, but I just went to Google News and theres no mention of it at all....

Is it because it makes it obvious how wrong America was for removing Saddamm?

ISIS has marked the homes of the Christians and gave them an ultimatum of either paying a heavy fine, leaving or death.

are you denying the persecution (murder/rape/ and general intimidation and pillaging) of the Coptic Christians in Egypt the last 3 years by the brotherhood?? Or similar treatments by similar Muslim groups though out the region.

Or the historical "tolerance" Islam has held for non Muslims living among them????

Your trolling is lacking as I am unsure what it is you are mocking in this particular instance. So one might conclude you are just mocking everything................

Sleeve, you don't know anything about Islam.

Every single religion has a murderous, butchering, righteous side. Christianity, Islam, you name it. A rabbi in Israel today just called for extermination of Muslims.

I'm not defending any religion, or denying what has happened to Christians in the Middle East - but you shouldn't point any out as being any worse than any other, especially when you have no idea what is driving the specific conflict (in this case, Iraq).

I agree with you on this for the record, some belief systems are just a little bit more evolved and hold a some what less medieval mentality. Given the relative "youth" of Islam compared to the rest of major western religions Islam is about where Christianity was in the 16th century in its maturity level.

I know a little more than you might think ;)

To be fair, the Sunni ISIS forces have been slaughtering Shiites. Muslim brother vs Muslim other. This religious fanaticism.. it's just another way of dehumanizing victims.. it's easier to pull a trigger when you're convinced 'they're not like us'.

Ultimately the middle eastern situation is stuck in a power grab and wanton vindication for decades (centuries? millenia?) of oppression, underrepresentation, and good-ol'-fashion hate mongering. Wealthy/powerful figureheads get the poor, desperate, and ignorant to do their bidding.

Let's not even start on Western mismanagement of border drawing post-WWII, and American (and Russian, and Chinese, and Saudi...) imperialist meddling (without a doubt the biggest destabilizing force in the region since the 70's).

Might want to look into what they are doing to the Christians in the areas they are under control of.

This. You just saved me so much righting.
This conflict is not new and has been active for many many years. Prior to WWI and the dividing of the Ottoman Empire by western powers, all the groups who hated and killed each other were more or less divided up in a way that kept them more or less at peace. Then England, France, and the US decided on all new boarders with out even asking experts such as T.E. Lawrence(Lawrence of Arabia) what they thought were good ideas.
Palestine is a prime example of an English colonial territory horribly miss managed, and to this day still messed up beyond belief.
Western powers really need to stop trying to "help" because they just fuck shit up even more. Let it burn down and grow back.

Many of these conflicts and their leaders use religion as an excuse for war, but really when you boil it down its only the uneducated fighters who truly believe in all the religious extremist beliefs while the leaders sit back and collect the spoils of war and watch American Blue Ray movies. Its a power game, a bunch of people trying to grab land and wealth for them selves, and if they can invoke Allah's name to do it all the better.

The idea to use religion as a tool for power is not new ether. Christians and many other faiths have done so in the past, and will most likely do so in the future.

I dont believe Islam is an evil religion. I have studied it along with Christianity and a few other belief systems. I do believe it is easy for evil men to twist to their needs, but I could do the same with the Bible.
Even though the Muslim cultures are going through a dark time right now, they have been through times of enlightenment. All cultures go through dark and light times through the cycle of history. Remember it was Arabs and Islam that helped bring about the Renaissance and helped pull mid evil Europe out of its shit hole. The concept of 0, much of modern medicine, algebra, modern water/pipe systems, art, poetry, geometrical theories, and much more can be atributed to Muslim Arab scholars.

Umm. Advanced math was the free greek's and farily sure the turks got the idea and tech for municipal water systems from the roman conquest of the region. After all modern istanbul was the seat of power for the eastern empire, both societies predate Mohamed by at least 800 years.

Assyrians were the first to create the wheel, algebra, aqueducts, a calendar, astronomy, library, and more. We dont get credit for any of it...

As far as that region ALWAYS being like this, that is simply not true. Many generations of Assyrians (who are Christian) lived "happily" in both Iraq and Iran (our indigenous homeland) until the last 30 years. When the Islamic revolution happened in 1979 & 1980 millions of Assyrians fled Iran. Those in Iraq were relatively fine until Saddam was removed from power and since then its been one clusterfuck after another. Many Assyrians are now refugees in Syria, and that situation isnt much better than it was in Iraq.

Its simply not a good time to be a Christian in that region. Not sure it ever will be again.

Yeah sure but most of that tech was lost during the fall of the Roman Empire, and it wasnt the Christians (edit: it wasn't the European Christians) that brought it back.
All I am trying to say is that Muslims haven't been such violent relatively cultureless people throughout history. I think they could become a great culture again given the right opportunities and leaders. And the Romans were not all great inventors. They got most of their tech, and even there religion from the Greeks and other cultures who surrounded them. They were great borrowers.
Also Islam has brought many beautiful things into this world before it was twisted into a nasty extremist belief system used to subjugate people. It used to be full of art, poetry, and music. Its actually really sad what has happened to it.
