Al Qaeda was funded by Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and to a lesser extent Qatar. Why would they have entered Iran? It's a Shiite state that disavowed the organization and even offered the US help with pursuing bin Laden. Look up Jaysh al Islam - al Qaeda's weenie affiliate in Palestine. I'm not even sure what rhetorical question you're asking, to be honest.
