    For what?

Are the rigs planting roadside bombs at night? Are they rioting in the streets?

    Pretty sure that's not possible.

I don't see this thread ending much better than the other community lavatory we have going at the moment.

Hell storm in the other thread...but I agree with you on this 100%. I was worried about militarization when the whole gun control laws that were "manifested" by the public/school shootings that were going on last year. Not to mention that at that time, wasn't the government stocking up on a lot of high end military ammunition?

DHS put through a pretty sizable order of ammunition, some say it was to stock up for civil unrest, some say it was to put more stress on the manufacturers and less in the hands of civilians, some say it was just a normal purchase order. Why our Department of HOMELAND Security needs so much is beyond me, tax payers are covering the bill for ammunition that could be used against them and if not (hopefully) we're paying to have a massive stockpile somewhere. Either way...

Yeah, but working an oil rig is more dangerous than police work! We have to do something!

(In case you were wondering, that's completely tonque-in-cheek)

I'd read those were the maximum ordering values for IDIQ contracts, and no where near that amount had actually been ordered or delivered.

Yeah, it's nearly impossible to trust anything you read. On one side of the debate or the other, too many agendas to keep track of. I'll continue to take care of myself/family and vote for the people who give me the most freedom to do so. Seems that mentality is slipping away unfortunately.

Back on topic, police militarization is bad m'kay.

I'm willing to get that the congressmen (or women) who sit on the committees that authorize those types of purchases have ammunition manufacturers in their districts, and/or have financial ties to them. I'm not saying that's a good reason, but it might be part of the reason...

I doubt that normal purchases like ammunition are passed by congress--however I'm sure they're in charge of voting on DHS's budget.

They are not passed by congress, you're correct. But large ones are often approved by various committees or sub-committees.

I got sidetracked a couple of weeks ago here in the OT forum reading about 'no-knock' warrants and found an AP article from 2013. The above statement shows the total waste of time and resources this program has become.

Here is the full article. Doubt there is anything that will surprise anyone.
