Racism on the web becoming more abundant?

I've noticed lately when browsing Youtube that there is a growing trend to see either Cracker or waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles in the top comments. Just to clarify, It's not the word that strikes a chord. Its when either one is applied to any stupid fucking video categorizing the entire race as being as stupid as the fuck in the video.

Just seems ironic to me. Everyone complaining about racism, then perpetuating it from behind their computer screens on both sides.

Then again, on the web everyone is a comedian yo mama master so maybe I'm just over thinking it.

yeah, there is a lot of that going on on youtube, yahoo, blogs, etc. There are a lot of keyboard warriors out there. I feel that part of it is just to get people upset and nothing strikes a chord quite like racism.

It's pretty bad but racism aside all youtube comments are so bad they shouldn't be read

I tend to agree... people can hide behind the anonymity of their screen and allow their true colours to shine through. Not as easy in real life. I bet there are a lot of racist people online that would say otherwise if you met them on the street.

Agreed. This must be who a large portion of people truly are. When there's no chance of their "character" being hurt by being identifiable. It's gross.

I feel like the increase is from all the tech savvy younger generations that on the internet. Even 5 years ago, they weren't around, and older generations aren't nearly as active on the internet.

I think another thing is racism just isn't as visceral to most young people (being a young people myself) as it is to members of the next couple older generations. Not that racism isn't all over still, or that it doesn't affect people, but there used to be riots and fires and huge demonstrations and Presidential interventions. That on top of the words being used so much in society (movies/music) really disconnects them from their meanings.

So....what about Ferguson, MO? That doesn't count? I think most young people and trolls simply use the words to get a rise or "make a point" without truly understanding the history and true meanings. It's nothing new, except now they have a public voice (per se) to share their immature views.
