OK.
GWB: I am perfectly happy in my income bracket. I don't argue for a second vacation each month. The current once a month vacations are good enough for me. Tonight, we're flying to Boston to see game #2 of their first home series. Not game #1, because tickets were $800/piece and we're not at that level. But we're pretty good. It's not me that has a problem living comfortably. I pay my taxes, go to work, cut my grass, and pick up trash in my neighborhood. I am pretty happy and my life is pretty easy.
It's those bottom quintiles that are struggling to scrape by, that count every cent of every dollar to afford their groceries, that break my silly bleeding liberal heart because I can't bear to know that people are starving in this country and if enough people got on board, we could do something about it. And it infuriates me to see proof (of what we all know) that if you're rich enough, you don't even need to pay the taxes you are legally required to.
No one wants to be poor. No one chooses to have no money so they can't feed their kids. But there are people that choose to fuck everyone else over so they can increase their income by .05%. They have been doing so in increasing amounts for the last 40 years. How bad does it have to get before something happens? And I just don't think that's right. These assholes are literally stealing everyone's money. Tax money is not theirs. It belongs to this country. It pays for our roads. Our schools. Our sometimes stupid foreign policy, but it's not theirs. And then we have this repatriation holidays to bring that funneled cash back in at some obscene tax rate, like 4.5%, because the government wants at least a fraction of it. It's not right. Society is suffering because of it. How many more jobs could be created without billions of dollars getting funneled out of the US to sit in an off shore account? How many more people could stop being under employed?
