You know usually I enjoy it when you enter a debate such as this thread because, although I usually don’t agree with your line of thinking, you do a fair job defending your position. I respect your thought pattern.

Todd I appreciate that but it was tongue and cheek post meant to make Decay roll his eyes and be just as outlandish as his post......
That said I can spin up a reasonable defensive position in support it for shits and giggles
Explain to me why it would not be a land rush for Mexico???? The US shares a nearly undefended boarder with Mexico now, CA would have no means to defend it self. It would be of huge benefit to add the worlds 6th largest economy to its own.
Then you have the historical settling of CA by Spain and migration of the "mexican peoples" settling further and further north establishing more and more settlements. The US took control in 1848 not all that long ago ( in respect to Spain/Mexico controlling/Settleing the area for nearly 300 years prior) so they have the historic claim to the area.
Now if you were saying it would remain a US protectorate maybe, from the likes of hostile power sure you have point, we would not have a 1000+ mile undefended boarder at that point..... But Mexico I dont see wasting the energy or resources, since we would still be continuing to trade with CA no matter whos flag would be flying over it, and buying the food, technology, information services, and what not from them. (In Fact I think you would see a lot of those big companies "emigrating" to the US before the ties officially broke)
It would just be a modest reorganization of NAFTA (even if CA was to stay a Stand Alone) and besides 6% of the population of CA are non legal residents from Mexico as it is now, the toe hold has been established ;)

Unbelievable
If California seceded it would be bankrupt without federal monies. California finances are a joke. As for Silicon Valley? They’d find out quickly they need to sell product to the other 49 states or die.
I’m all for secession. Go for it. Watching Brown and liberal politicians build high speed trains, letting illegals vote is a recipe for prosperity no?
LOL. CA frankly is a joke politically. But hey, it’s the state’s choice to go down the road they choose. Good fucking luck.Last edited by gwb72tii; 03-08-2018, 08:45 PM.“There is nothing government can give you that it hasn’t taken from you in the first place”

Oh Well I went the historic route for more fun but yes seems CA gets a full 36% of its income from federal funds to the tune of nearly a 100b ....

Wschnitz, with all due respect if that’s possible on this forum, CALPERS is completely upside down financially. The high speed train would be impossible without yours and my tax dollars assuming you’re employed up in the socialist haven of B’ham.
BTW I had dinner at Rock and Rye last night and it was seriously good. Large selection of bourbon.“There is nothing government can give you that it hasn’t taken from you in the first place”

This is just a dumb thought experiment at this point, stop trying to emotionally portray your opinion as truth just cause California is the easy Conservative bait. You guys ignore all the facts to make your truths the true truth.1989 BMW 325is | 2019 Ford Ranger FX4willschnitz

Ok
So please come back with something that points out where my argument is wrong.
And yes CA and IL are easy targets for conservatives, and for good reason.“There is nothing government can give you that it hasn’t taken from you in the first place”

we have a thing called the national guard. i spent a few years in it. it's a state-funded military. automatic weapons, armor divisions, our own air force, etc... montana should worry about being invaded by canada before california needs to be concerned about mexico.past:
