You're 120 hp monster is not God's gift to BMW's. In fact most of the E30
s at BF we're junked up garbage. A Few nice ones, but 5-lug coversion don't appeal to me at all and turbo's are niced till they break the bar in half. And there was less than 6 E30 M3's there. One of which was mine, an ugly work in progress.
BF is worth it 100%. It's a 2 night-3 day experience. You get wasted one night, shoot the shit the next night about what cars we're cool or not cool at BF. You're with friend's you haven't seen in a while, Santa Barbara is just a great little city to visit in general.
The E36/E46 M3 is one of the greatest all around sports cars ever made, along with more modern BMW's, they also make much better daily driver's than E30's do, which is what a lot of the guys on here use, unlike say a 86 325es or a 84 318i or a 91 318i, etc.
Even if you don't like the more modern cars, they do offer a glimse of what you can buy when you make more money and get a real job one day.......
You do realize that everybody has different taste in cars right? I happen to agree with Josh 100%.
Its not about being in denial, its about driving what you want. The E36 is one of the ugliest bmw's made in my opinion, the S50/S52 is a plastic wanna be M motor (again my opinion), and the e46 is a big heavy pig.
Sure the newer ones are faster, more comfortable, and more reliable.
I dont' daily my E30, so I cannot comment there, hell I daily a damn Toyota, however even if I could afford a newer bmw I would not even consider going through with it. I have no interest in traction control, idrive, obd2, vano's, etc.
Hell if I could afford a new M3/M5 I'd take a Porsche over it any day of the year, and for me a practical daily happens to be an SUV.
We are not in denial, we are just a different kind of bmw/car enthusiast.
Is the E30 gods gift to BMW? nope, no bmw is.
I will always hate new cars, which concentrate more on safety/technology over actual driving performance. I don't like computers thinking for me, i never had.
Again food for thought, but that is why I didn't attend bimmerfest, I could careless about some guy supercharging his E36, Modding his E46, or some jackass pimping his Dinan mods on his new M5. Hell I'd say half the people at bimmerfest paid some shop to work on the car for them.

Agreed with. It's like BMW got really lazy when designing the e36 and it's M version.

This year was my first BFest, and I definitely won't be returning next year or any other year. It revolved entirely around e46s. Everything else was just a sideshow.
Looks like a fun event, but way too many show cars. I like to see "fun cars," cars that get the shit beaten out of them. The conversations with those owners are usually the most interesting.

Man.... is there a R3V brainwashing camp I don't know about?!?
James, I really have no idea how you think a stock E30 was made to be a performance car and where safety and comfort wasn't a huge part of BMW's design.

Well the 325i/M3 were more tailored toward performance then any other bmw at the time (excluding the e28 m5, etc).
My entire point is that some of us only like the older cars, and have zero desire to enjoy the new ones, i'm one of those people.
It just ticks me off how people assume we are complete morons when we don't have any real desire to like the newer more advanced cars.
