    looking for CAE style shifter reviews e30

    Good Morning, My intended use is a dual purpose road car and track day AX car. I don't have a real race car. Lots of compromises with my route and set up and it's all good. Currently I have the Garagistic DSSR and new shifter bushings. The feel is a little vague. I know i do not want a chassis mounted shifter requiring poly bushing at the transmission. I am using new OEM rubber at engine, trans and differential. I am after a more direct feel with out full blown race car or that too close short shifter stuff. Anyone with this style shifter?

    For that price, the thing better feel perfect!

    I have a cheap chassis mount on my ZF320 and it's "good enough" after some customization of the linkage.
    FWIW I still have rubber engine and trans mounts.

      Do you have upgraded shift carrier bushings as well? The front one is usually delrin, while the rear carrier mount is available in poly or delrin. With solid carrier bushings, DSSR (AKG is the brand I prefer out of the bunch), and new selector joint foam, I have had good luck making the shift action more crisp in my e30 and e36 cars over the years.

      Another option is to take an early model sheet metal console, trimming it down to bolt to the top of the trans tunnel, but keeps OE bushing etc while eliminating the need for the carrier. I have tried this setup on a few e30s as well and works perfectly fine even with rubber trans/motor mounts.

      As for the CAE shifter, a friend has that setup in a 997 Porsche and it requires a lot of effort to operate. Good for track/racing, but tiring to use on the street. If you do want that style shifter though, RTD makes a similar style setup along with a shorter version for a little less money.

            I use the Chassis Mounted shifter from Garagistics. I know that you are using some parts from them. They over a few options, but I'm using the one below (medium height, Black, Knurled knob).

              Those both are good options. I still have not done anything yet. The idea of high effort on the street is a no go so thanks for that advice as I will only get to the track 5 times a year.

              Its Soda not Pop, what are your driving impressions with that shifter? notchy? super tight spacing?

                It's way more direct with zero sloppiness. The height setup that I have makes the effort very minimal.
