Tire debates, which is the best for auto-x?

I am just getting back into auto-x after being out of it for 4 years, back then the azenis was the best bang for the buck tire, I have been told this tire from Kumho : http://www.kumhousa.com/Tire.aspx?id...466bd5c&cat=18 is the best thing out there since the redesign of the azenis. My goal for my car is to compete is DS, so tire choice is gonna be a big decision, going to be running on some cleaned up and painted bottlecaps with 195/60/14's but am open to suggestions on tire size as this is my first E30 to autox. Eventually I want to go to R compounds, but in due time. Thanks for any help guys!

Does your DS class have DS Street Tire and DS on R Comps or are they all grouped into one?

When I ran in DS a few years ago, I was on street tires and lots of guys were on Dot R (V710s and Hoosiers), and there is huge difference there. If you can afford, and if the class is combined I would just go with Dot R tires are they are allowed in stock classes along with a couple other mods.

they are lumped into one class. Which is why I ultimately wanna go with hoosiers. Just gotta find a good, reliable source to buy some 14" hoosiers.........

check out the hoosier website for the closeouts.. I don't know if they have any now, but I got all of mine (3-4 sets) as last year's model for around $400 a set. I'm not so competitive that having the newest model would make much difference and it's about half the price you'd pay otherwise.

Interesting. I'm looking to replace my dinky 195/65 Falken 615's with a set of 225/50R-14's in the V710's. Seems like a decent tire for Auto-X and track use.

V710 is a great AutoCross tire, it's not really a good TRACK tire as it will heat up FAST.

Yeah, I was overheating my v710's in about 10-15 minutes on the track. And it takes a solid 5 minutes of panzy driving to bring them back down. They are pretty fast, and would be good to turn a few laps in time trials or a short sprint race, but I wouldn't recommend them for HPDE's. Actually, I think I'm faster with my c50 z214's because they are more consistent.

Hrm, good to know. Maybe it would be best to get another set of rims to run the V710's on for auto-x and cut my teeth on my 195 615's, since they'd be more predictable for HPDE's?

I don't think anything beats a set of RE01-R's for HPDE use... for the money. They also last a good amount of time.

spec series uses Toyo RA1s for track use, I just ordered a set off multiple recommendations from friends that do spece30 series, they told me to avoid Hoosier R6s for track days as they loose grip real quick and v710s will cord in no time. For autox I run ST class on my Hankook Ventus RS-2s and I love them. Check out treadzone.com for good prices on tires.
