    Pinning windows

    Hey guys,

Has anyone removed the window regulators and created a pin system that would hold the window all the way up, 50 percent down, and completely down. ( I need the window to go 50 percent down since I still drive the car)

    thanks
    chris

I know racers have done pins on the inside of the door to hold it all the way up.

I assume you aren't trying to remove the regulators for cage clearance, but for weight reduction. Why not replace the glass with lexan? The glass is heavier than the regulator. I don't see an easy way to make the pins adjustable while driving without some crafty fab work.

if you can just remove the motor and keep the track in place, I'd do that. It does a good job of holding the window in and isn't very heavy.

actually, I don't really see how this would make any difference at all. The window probably weighs 25-30lbs, the regulator can't weigh more than 5lbs. Just sold the regulators out on my parts car, I was surprised at how light it was.

              Just a super-ghetto-on-a-greasy-wadded-up-napkin-hack-mechanic idea:
Make up some kind of mount for your pins on the door. One near the front of the door, one toward the rear. I'm assuming these pins will slide in and out of the mounts.
Then (I don't know if it will work) drill holes big enough for the pins in the window at the spots where you would like your window to set. Lower your window, set the pins in the holes, away you go!
I guess you'll have to buy some kind of clear plugs to put in the window for when it's raining, and you don't want to get wet.

... and glass IS pretty heavy.

i might just make a pin to have it all the way then take out the glass when i get to the track.... just crack the door open when im at a toll

Stick a little rollcage bar far enough into the doorpanel to delete the whole shebang. Those COMSCC rules are looser than a whore's vagina after a meth trip through Harlem.

for 5lbs a side, I don't know.. doesn't seem even remotely worth it.

Seriously... and they have some of the weirdest car classifications I've ever seen. I thought EMRA was bad...

Agreed. This can actually become a safety issue if done incorrectly. I'd hate to see your pins fail and your window come flying out during an impact. Just what other drivers and corner workers need, a 20 lb sheet of glass flying through the air at 100mph.
