not exactly - the design of the fuel pump keeps the fuel on the pump side, and it should be pretty effective. but the issue of having to keep the tank more than half full isn't universal. I've gone down to 1/4 tank with no issues as have others. and yet some people seem to have this problem below 1/2 tank.

it depends. in normal driving its not an issue but in hard g-force right hand turns on the track it becomes an issue below 1/2 tank.

I can actually run my 87 325is down to fumes before it starts cutting out. The "bowl" around the pump does a pretty good job when the in-tank pump actually works. But my fuel pump dies every couple months so that's a problem all in itself, haha.

And I have registered 1.1+ g's on lateral movement, so if there was going to be a problem I would have seen it. Even on long sweepers, there isn't an issue. Oil pressure, on the other hand...

yes, I know. I never had problems on the track (or autox for that matter, and I've gone down to the reserve light in that case). Just saying it's not neccesarily a design issue because not everyone seems to have the problem.

What would be the weight saving of removing the stock tank?

Are you referring to experiences with an early or late model tank? Has anyone with an early model done a late model tank retrofit?
