I am currently running billy sports with IE stage 3 springs. I Have some extra money for suspensions and I was wondering what would give me more edge running in AutoX, the sway bars or camber plates?

Camber plates. Both will increase your contact patch, but the camber plates should be more noticeable.Last edited by JGood; 08-09-2009, 12:34 PM.Comment

Camber plates should help your car turn in much better.
But to put the question back to you -- what do you want to improve about your car's handling?
the other thing to be aware of with camber plates is that they'll really increase tire wear on street/highway driving unless they're adjustable *and* you adjust them back.Comment

Not worried about tire waer as this is not my dd and is my weekend toy car.
I am overall pretty happy with handling now, so was curious which one will help the most.Comment

i think what they are getting at is what do you want to improve specifically.
both camber plates and sways help but they don't both do the exact same thing. so what part of you cars handling do you want to improve the most? But to put the question back to you -- what do you want to improve about your car's handling?sigpic

i have tons of body roll and a lot of understeer so i bought sways.
i think that will make way more of a difference than camber plates. but i have no experiance with a car that has camber plates just sways.
if your car looks like this than the answer is clear.

I don't think body roll is as a big of a problem as you suggest. Camber plates significantly change the tire contact patch, especially on r-comps. I went from wearing down the outside 1-2" of tire to cords in 2-3 events, to using the whole width of the tire evenly and getting more life out of my tires (4-5 events). I also gained about a second on Pocono North (1:05's to low 1:04's, and even some 1:03's).
From what I understand, sway bars shouldn't really be used to control body roll, that's a function of springs. Swaybars should be used to control oversteer/understeer. If you set your car up using big sways and soft springs, and then you want to dail in oversteer/understeer, you have one fewer tuning tool now.Last edited by JGood; 08-09-2009, 12:34 PM.Comment

for me i have both. i cant get enough camber in the front running normal springs i need to switch to coil overs. so i still wear the outside 3/4th faster then the inside. i have way to much body roll if i go much bigger on the sway bars ill start lifting the inside tires which ive already been on 2 wheels from loading the body from one side to another. 4 tires on the ground have more traction then 2 i lost a 2nd place when i went on 2 wheels almost hit the tire wall. at the 5:30 mark in the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0aYKfbUUcaA-Eric-Comment

Well since i mainly do auto x I guess I am looking into improvement in slow hairpin style turns more then longer high speed stuff.
but I do have very little body roll as the IE 3 springs are pretty stiff.Comment
