I know we are busting this thread.....

but that is impressive....and i know you spent alot of cash......

Id rather just throw in a 24v based on what you spent.....altho the m20 is very lovable..

sounds like you've done it all right. I don't neccesarily agree on not raising the powerband higher, but peak power at 6k is still pretty nice. if you top out at 135, you must redline at 6400? with all that nice hardware I don't see why you couldn't raise it substantially by adjusting that cam gear. Hell even leaving it alone, 7k is a good target with a 4.10. Mine works well limited to 7400 with the cam gear retarded a bit, and I don't even have fancy billet rockers. Too bad they don't make vanos for SOHC heads. :p

Car will rev to 7000, the power drops off at 6300 with the peak at 6000. Torque goes flat from 3700 to 5500 where it crosses the HP on the curve. I have left it here because this is where the AFR seems to work out the best and the curves are optimal. I dont care about the numbers so much as the power curves. If I wanted a 24V I would spend less money and buy an E36 M3. I love my E30, it will always be an M20! I built this motor to last, I wanted a car that would build torque and this starts building at 2300, it is a perfect enduro setup for now. A few body panel swaps and the car will be in the 2200 pound range.

as far as Vanos, first thing we do is delete it!

              Yes.
It may necessitate the removal of the rear door pull arms/arm rests.

Maybe he'd done all the research and it doesn't help him at all because he knew exactly what he needed, or maybe he didn't know the difference and actually needed a cage for what he wants to do with the car. This is the Track & AutoX section after all, yes?

ohh yeah, my next mod is an oil preheater. This will allow me to heat the oil before I start the engine, A big deal for me as I hold 13Q of redline.

Here is a shot of a VSR center section with my custom rear bars:

The main hoop fits very nice. Mine was shifted a bit to the passenger side; I had to fab up a plinth box for the driver's side leg to land on. Outside of that little problem, the fitment is great. Much better than any other bar I have seen.

jeff hasnt mentioned anything about wanting to race in leagues or clubs. i think he just wants a roll bar for street use. his e30 has an s50 (or s52) and its pretty damn slide happy.

im pretty sure something like the vsr would be fitting the bill to a T.

Although not widely available, another option is the safety devices bar. I have seen them in a couple of 944s and seem pretty nice. I like the VSR bar too.

Thanks for all the recommendations guys. I autox it but would like to eventually get onto the track and would like the little bit of extra safety/structural support/harness mounting. I'm doing a bar before I do seats and harnesses. Right now I'm leaning towards spending the little bit of extra money and getting the VSR bar as the center is removable and it's still a street driven car (even if the rear seats aren't usable).

                            Thanks a bunch!

I'm looking as well, I'd like harnesses in my wagon for track days and hence want a roll bar for safety purposes. curious to see more installed pics, maybe on a sedan. I'd imagine the rear bars would have to be modified

Modifed for what, your wagon? For a sedan - no mod needed - the cars are dimensionally identical inside.
