Got nailed in the last race.

Went to Buttonwillow for the events on 4/21. Brought out a buddy of mine to run the enduro with as a birthday present. So, AM practice, AM qualifying, afternoon race. Came in 11/16. Car wasn't handling particularly badly I just didn't have the pace for some reason.

Here's the video, nothing exciting. I missed the 1-2 shift on the start as I have for every single race so far.

This is "Saturday's race 4/21" by ignatius reily on Vimeo, the home for high quality videos and the people who love them.

The in the enduro. They put us in E3, and at Buttonwillow the SE30 is just horribly outclassed. We were so far off the pace of everyone else it wasn't even funny. The other SE30 guys knew this and all but one bagged out of the enduro.

First 1:45 goes by without incident (my buddy driving). Here's the start, since people like videos:

Great start! But we're way off the pace so we're just driving smoothly and staying out of the way. Pit stop was less than smooth, won't go into it.

I get into the car. Whoa, not sure if these lights were really terrible or if the dust being kicked up was blunting them. They came off my road car so I'm inclined to say it was all the dust in the air. KC Smileys we added weren't much help. I was turning laps about 15 secs off my race pace earlier in the afternoon, pointing everyone by everywhere I could. But only where it was safe.

15 minutes to go the lead Miata comes up behind me in the sweeper. I let him pass there, then cut in for the Esses. Unbeknownst to me the P2 car was right behind him. He tries to pass in the middle of the Esses. This is NOT a place to pass, even if there WAS a point-by, which there wasn't. He never lifts even as he sees he's going to hit me, so he launches off the curb and torpedos the right side of my car at full throttle. The guy who hit me posted a video:

Whole right side of the car was destroyed. Right front and rear fenders smashed, right door won't open, both right side wheels destroyed, right side tires popped, right rear hub and bearing trashed, shocks bent, front and rear control arms bent, rear subframe crossmember bent, my radiator is punctured and leaking like a sieve, right rear bearing is toast. I might have a cut in my fuel tank, the curbing grazed it pretty hard and there's red paint all over it.

My car. Check the angle of the front wheel. They were toed out too. Retired from enduro, couldn't drive the next day. Gonna cost me $4k+ to fix, and that's with junkyard parts.

I hate Spec Miatas. Go destroy each other and leave me out of your stupidity.

There is a reason those are called Spec Pinatas, and along the same lines there are Blunder Roadsters.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Unfortunately, we have to race with them pretty often. At Buttonwillow they're consistently ~5-6 seconds a lap faster than us and they grid us with them. At Willow and Cal Speedway we're 4-7 secs a lap faster than them and they grid them with another group, praise be.

My favorite part is not only was there no apology, no beer offered, no "hey man, I made a bad move, let's shake and be cool", but he sent over a photographer to document the damage in case of lawsuit. His pit guys denied everything. My friends and the SE30 guys were getting really pissed off at their actions following.

The inquiry found them at fault and penalized them a lap. One fucking lap.

One lesson I learned here: it's a lot more stressful being the slowest car than it is being a fast car.

Amen. You get to make a lot fewer choices...

Looks like a normal day for SmashMiata, though!

No need to hate the miata. Put that guy in another car with the same circumstances and you will still have the same end result.

I think the culture of SM is one where they expect to smash into each other. We SE30 guys all hang out, so if you bump someone you got some 'splainin to do when we meet for beer later.

To each their own, I just don't want to be dragged into it. I won't be doing enduros anymore, esp at Buttonwillow. Just too many issues to deal with when we're totally uncompetitive.

I wrote out a very long response. Sat back, read it and decided i'm coming off as a dick and not to post it.

So I will just say this. Fuck most miata driver, but don't hate the car. They are a ton of fun.

Miatas are awesome. SM is full of immature prats that have a complex because they think people are all making fun of them for driving a girly car.

Miatas seem to enjoy being on top or underneath each other whenever it's possible
