iwantspeed - nice! I am at 2500lbs with full interior and m30b35 swap, half a tank of gas, no a/c compressor, no spare tire/jack.

How the heck do you guys loose that extra 200-300 lbs? I have a euro S50B30 which i'm guessing weigh's more than the M20, but I feel that my car is a bit heavy still!

as it sat on the scales

            Removed:
            -all tar
            -power steering
            -ABS
            -all HVAC
            -all interior
            -foam from the dashboard
            -swiss cheesed bumper cores
-smaller battery (need to go smaller)

            Possible gains?
-gut the doors (4 door) w/ lexan on the back sides
            -get rid of steel hood/trunk/bumpers
-lighter wheels (current combo is 51.8lbs a corner vs. 45lbs front & 46lbs rear) that's 25 pounds of unsprung weight!
-remove e-brake. I have aluminum hats and steel rings for the ebrake, so this could shed another good chunk of unsprung
-trim excess steel from unused section of the fenders.
            -lighter exhaust (in the works)
-ditch the airbox for a big carbon one
            -trim down the wiring more

Am I missing any simple things?

Is the sun roof still in the car? It and the cassette are about 40lb and that is weight that is up high.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

A big part of it is that heavy euro s50. That's the heaviest 24v engine BMW has ever made, heavier than the US e36 ones and the s54 as well. And your front to rear weight distribution shows that. I would look for ways to remove weight from the front if I were you.

Hmmm, sounds like I need a carbon air box for sure! Do you by chance have the weight of a s50b30? I have never been able to find a good weight.

Check out my engine weights thread:

I discussed what has to be done to accurately compare engine weights and which are more credible and less credible sources..

My comment about the euro s50 being the heaviest was based on the BMW OEM parts weights on bmwfans.info
The weights on bmwfans.info(find the car then find the part "short engine"), while they don't include everything attached to the engine, are a good way to compare weights, since the same parts are included in that weight for different engines, so it's a fair comparison, and in my opinion, a lot more credible than other sources. And you can just look up the weights for other engine parts on that site (like the intake manifold for example) to compare everything down to the weight of each individual part and add them up.

I got to drive the hell out of this thing last weekend at a private track day. OMG it was a riot. So awesome, you had to have been there. Its got everything you need, nothing ya dont. I'll have some videos up soon.
forgot to remove the arm rests, door card clips, sound deadening all around the interior, e-brake handle, shift knob, rear of seat, seat hand lever, even the door latch you can just push and pull on the metal rod.

Start with a Diving Board car instead.. They are lighter. As mine sits in PRO3 trim, with the tar still in the main compartment, and trunk, lexan side rear quarters, 3/4 tank of gas.. 2548. So I am going to have to ADD weight to make the class min.

I second the sound deading. That stuff weighs a ton. So get some dry ice, a hammer, and have at it.

oh and all that other shit you don't need.

And I put an all aluminum japanese engine in the car too.

                            Just sayin is all.

Look into FG hood/fenders. I got all bits some time ago and that hood is damn heavy. Though the FG one I got even has the structural parts and hinges and looks 99% oem. Fenders aren't so much weight loss, but the fiber ones are featherweight.

Anyone want less in the rear, look into replacing the trunk hood. If you want to see what it weighs, just undo the springs and try for yourself. That fukr is almost as heavy as the front.
