    Drift Car Dreams?

So I have been entertaining the idea of making a e30 drift car on the search for a locally blown up e30. Never done anything like this so plenty of thinking has already been done. Just not sure what to motor wise. first thought was a m50 swap or an m20 stroker. But I happen to have this rebuilt 302 sitting in the barn. I've seen a few e30s on the world wide web with ford v8s but is better then an m50? I would like to use the 302 just because I already have it but I don't want to be disappointed.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm. Get a 4 barrel carb, hooker headers, msd blaster. Drop in e30 & gogogo

A lot depends on that 302. There have been many variations. What year is it from? If you don't know post up the numbers on it and I can tell you what kinda power its supposed to make. The 302 that came in a pick up I got a while back only made 160hp from the factory

True true. My pops has his 75 eldorado with a 500 block. Supposed to make some like 500 hp ish. Thing will smoke the front tires easily. Kill tires rediculously. The 300 is pretty small most other v8 e30s are like crate ls1s which make 350 out the box

If I do go with the 302 I'll order the motor mounts and trans brace, but fab up my own oil pan.

Another convert :) Hint, ordering a pan from him will be a lot less of a pain in the ass.

Twice the weight and probably no more hp than an 325, why bother. Id rather spent that money on parts to get turbo onboard..

With that year engine, yes. But the engine I have makes 230hp and 325ft/lbs of torque. And only 100lbs heavier than an m20, so equal with an m50.

Its still an seriously old construction with a hopeless short rpm register. I mean, pushrods..
If you put the money to get it in an E30 and wizard some hp out of it on the M20 you probably already got, i know what id choose..

To each their own, I prefer torque over a gutless little inlines 6. A LOT cheap to modify and make power too. Peak torque at 2600rpm doesn't hurt either.

302 upgrades and unlimited plus it carburated so way less electronical shit to wire. But I would rather keep it all BMW.

That engine you have there looks pretty old and probably needs to be opened up and gone through.

You would need a 4 barrel manifold, carb (properly setup for drift with anti-slosh baffling, jet extenders, etc), headers and custom exhaust fab as the headers will be reversed facing forward. You have no transmission. Too get the front end weight down you would need aluminum cylinder heads. You also need to go with the short nosed water pump.

All in all it adds up fast, in the end it would be cool but most likely not worth the time and money.

I say move on, strip the chassis to the bone, cage it, S52 with a 3:46 and a stiff tight ass suspension, all solid bushings, hydro e-brake....

You will drift like a king, guaranfuckinteed

I think I'm gonna scrap the 302 idea and swap an 855 head on my eta and see how it goes from there. Then if i like what I'm getting into buy another e30 and motor swap. What else would be needed to start practicing? I think I have an 3.46lsd lined up and the eta is on hr race and blistien sports.

fuck. I hate old ford engines. they just suck.

you dont need much power to slide around. many here slide on 100 whp m42 power.

                              sell me that 3.46 ?
