If it only weighs 15 lbs, I bet you could still shave 10 off. And that's at the highest point in the car too.

      True.

But you're not going to see savings like that with products that Ary/EuroStop/DTMFiberwerkz produce.

I thought I had seen this before. That looks pretty nice but the labor/cost/weight saving might be off. Why not just a weld in plug? If you remove a significant part of the roof and its for a "race" car you obviously might want a roll cage etc to help structure anyway.
So fab or welding skills will be required anyway.

Believe me when I say that, if done right, you can bond carbon to steel/aluminum for incredibly strong results. I've built suspension arms for formula cars that are aluminum and carbon, and held together by nothing more than epoxy, and they worked very well. We also used carbon shear panels in places of steel tubes in the chassis to make it both lighter and stronger.

I'm just saying that an expensive 10lbs. I would make sure I had every other weight savings advantage covered first. It's a neat concept but man, I don't think I could pull the trigger.

Its not strength I'm worried about, its steel to carbon contact causing a galvanic reaction.

I suppose it would be easy enough to lay down a layer of glass on the car for a barrier and bond the roof to that though.

I would be most worried about the typical DTM Fiberwerkz fitment issues, but it would be a cool idea.

Lots have talked about producing it, nobody has really ever done it except for a few skilled people that did just one for their own car. It's a big challenge, and you would have to do an amazing job from start to finish, no corners cut, to pull it off.
