Finally, I was donated one session at Lime Rock this past June as a reward for some above-and-beyond mechanical work to save the weekend for the Cortina. I had literally never driven around the track in a race before, so it was...interesting.

This was today's race at Summit, and it was pretty exciting! I started about sixth and spent almost the whole race battling with an Elva MkIV sports racer. There was an MGB behind me for a while, but he had to leave the race after A MINI ROLLED JUST BEHIND ME. You can see me respond to it in the video; I watched the whole thing unfold in the rear view mirror. The Elva and I worked through traffic, went back and forth, and I got beside him more than once. Unfortunately, the saga of Cortina setup continues and the brakes and front end were extremely unsettling. You can see the car move around a LOT under braking, especially at the end of the front straight. Sorry if I'm rambling, it was just pretty cool.
Enjoy watching though!

Fun on the bun! Sad I've missed out on this thread for so long. Love the car, too.
I really felt for you when you missed the shift in the first videoComment

Thanks so much! We've put a lot of work into it over the years, but unfortunately it's kind of the runt of our litter (due mostly to the infrequency of chances to improve it). I'm really hoping we can start next season with a much better car though!
And that missed shift was truly heartbreaking, but nearly as much as if I'd blown up a motor I am VERY far from being able to replace!

Haha I bet, as soon as I saw that I almost let out an audible gasp haha. I know the feeling.
I was actually going to ask how much of a pain it was to find the correct suspension and bits for that car, I bet parts are almost impossible to come by. Hope you have a good machinist!Comment

Some parts can be pretty hard to find, but since most of the car was made by Ford it isn't too bad generally. We have yet to find a really good setup for it, though...Interested in vintage cars? Most of the stuff you would ever want, or need for early Cortinas and Escorts is available relatively cheap from the UK.Comment

There were a few reasons I didn't stay too close the whole time. First, the brakes were tossing the car both directions and I didn't want to get thrown into him in close quarters under braking, especially at the end of the straight. Second, I was trying to gauge where and how I was faster to try and find a setup, but it didn't play out. Also, that driver has a bit of a reputation for being...erratic, we'll say. I was on old, used, hard Avons that came off a customer's car when he wanted new tires. I was really hoping I could get a run at him in traffic, but they were all too aware and just got out of the way!
As a side note, I was awarded the Workers' Choice Award for Drive of the Weekend for this race! :DLast edited by ELVA164; 12-01-2013, 08:50 PM.Interested in vintage cars? Ever thought about racing one? Info, photos, videos, and more can be found at www.michaelsvintageracing.com!

The Jefferson 500 at Summit Point went great this year, and we have a lot of video to show for it! It'll be slow going putting it all together, but this was my first event with front and rear cameras! Here is the first pair of videos, leave some feedback if you think I can improve the layout or something!

Rear View
This was my first session, and each following one gets a bit quicker! Stay tuned! :DInterested in vintage cars? Ever thought about racing one? Info, photos, videos, and more can be found at www.michaelsvintageracing.com!

Here's the front view of the Friday enduro; it's full of action, with cars around me almost every lap! A great use of the new front-rear dual view! The rear view is uploading now and should be done tonight. As always, comments and tips are welcome!
