Autocross/weekend tire

I found a set of used A048 in the size I want, but not sure if they will last very long. Doubt they are good for a daily driven car. Im hoping for something that will be a good balance, does anyone have experience with the Toyo R1R? -
A048 wouldn't be a great autox tire, no. How are they in comparison to the "lesser" r comps (RA1, RR, RC1, NT01 etc)? Worth the extra $50 per?Leave a comment:

I run Yokohama A048s, but it's a shitty tire for autox--not sticky enough to be competitive to something like A6s, but not low enough wear to compete in street tire. If I were to do it again, I would either get an all-out race slick OR a competitive street tire.
With that being said, the A048s are really linear, quiet at the limit, and warm up after a few corners. They perform well on the street, I have probably logged around 4000 miles so far (autox and mountain carving only) and they have around 3/4 to 1/2 tread left.Leave a comment:

They were on clearance on tirerack for a while. I would've ordered some, but they came to ~$800 after shipping. I ended up with falken fk452's and they look decent. Other than that, R888's were pratically the only thing I saw in 225/45/16. Kind of sad.Leave a comment:

hmmm, looks like the ZII no longer exists in that size... good thing I bought a set last month! I bet the ZII Star Spec will be coming out shortlyLeave a comment:

Any recommendations for something in a 225/45/16 size or something similar. I currently run Nitto NeoGeos (I think thats what they are called) in a 205/40, I think. They wont last long with the 24v motor. Ive been getting sideways a lot since the swap finished. Tire Rack has a Toyo R1R in a 225/45, for $160/ each and I think it will be good enough for a DD / weekend toy.Leave a comment:

I put a track weekend, probably ~80 autox runs, and some occasional street driving on my ZII's and they still aren't to the wear bars.Leave a comment:

I managed to get 5k street miles, a trip through the tail of the dragon and 130 auto-x runs out of mine,
they're now to the wear bars but I'd still use them for auto-x only this year if I had something to put them on (185/60/14)Leave a comment:

Again, thanks for the advice. looks like I have to make a decision between the Conti DW's and the Dunlop ZIIs. (the Falkens aren't available in 245/40/17)
What kind of life has everyone seen out if the ZIIs?Leave a comment:

Love my falken RT-615k's. Haven't run them at any autocross events yet though.

I run ZIIs on my e30, and had ZIs on my 2002. Love those tires. Only complaint is that they could give more noise feed back. They almost make no soundsLeave a comment:

Yeah I know, I don't think I'll be able to get any heat in them. I'm planning on focusing more on DE's and some TT's now though, I never really drive well or learn anything at auto-x's, they are just an excuse to drive around like an ass and work on car control.
LOL at the end of the first run! New car sounds awesome and looks pretty quickLeave a comment:

I have a feeling you won't really like the conti take-offs for auto-x!
Here are my Z2's in action. I drove about 30 miles on brand new tires to the event. First run in the vid is the 5th run on the tires, 2nd run is the 8th run.
