    RT-615s with bottlecaps...

anyone run these for autox? Falken only carries one size for 14" wheels (195/60R/14).

I need new tires for the bcaps anyways, but i was wondering if this particular combination would serve as a decent setup for autox? anone running these tires in the 14" form know how stiff the sidewall is?

they'll be just fine. a rather excellent combo actually, especially for the $$. the best part is you don't have to switch tires for autox :p

I used that setup until I got r-comps. Very awesome combo. Light, stiff sidewall with good turn in, amazing maximum grip, etc... For the price it's unbeatable. I'm willing to bet I'll get 10k-12k miles out of my setup too, just as many miles as normal street tires I've used (Kumho 712, General Exclaim, Sumitumo HTRZ-II, BFGoodrich G-Force Sport, etc...). They are down to inside wear indicators after about 8k miles of autox/backroad/highway driving. In performance comparison, they blow those other tires out of the water. All of those tires were 205/45/16.

I used them also on bottlecaps, then switched them over to the weaves. I love them

I ran that setup and won my region's street tire class championship in a DSP e30. Still got em and their for sale now too. Probably 50% used. The sidewalls are amazingly stiff and I never ran more than 38 psi in them. My car was fastest at 34/33 psi. I have pictures during runs at 34psi with no rollover.

            How's Ben's old car running?

I +1 the combo. I ran RT215s on my bottlecaps for months. Fantastic tires. I have RT615s on my current 16" weaves. Love them too.

Thanks for all the positive input on the combo!

I am still curious about the sidewall... most of you said the sidwall is stiff, so i was wondering if it was still stiff even with the sidewall size of the 195/60 version of the tire?

yeah that's the tire I ran 195/60/14 with lower pressures and it never rolled. I didn't get rollover until 32psi.

Matt, I was wondering what your nick was on here. Car's running good. Got all new suspension and bushings, springs, shocks, the whole bag of tricks. I'll hit you up in PM about some questions I had too.

ignore the "60 profile" for a moment. it's an aspect ratio, which means 60% of the width. they are 195mm wide - so your sidewall is 117mm tall. the 225/50 tires that everyone likes have a 112.5mm sidewall, not much shorter. so even though the 14" azenis is a 60 profile, it's really not that tall simply because the tire isn't very wide.

also, the construction of the lends itself to a stiffer sidewall anyway, even if the aspect ratio is "high" (which means nothing without considering the width).

I am going to try running 34/33 this saturday, I am normally running about 36-38 cold.

awesome information and feedback guys! i really cant wait to get these now. thanks a bunch!

oh, does anyone have experience with Vulcan Tire?

I want to purchase from them because they are giving away some cool tire totes to go along with the tires. A very cool incentive if you ask me... check em out!

I payed $63 each for mine from discounttiredirect.com with ~$30 shipping, so it's about the same price - but you get tire totes. Everyone loves tire totes. I say go for it. I might do that in the next couple weeks as mine are almost shot.

I use Edge Racing for all my tire needs. They support the racing community and do onsite delivery at races in Florida, not that that helps you but I always support a company who supports the sport. Plus their prices always beat tirerack and the other bigger names. Ordered probably 10 sets of tires thru them never a problem.

Edit: Figures they would be sold out right now. Nevermind

Jean, that's 34 front and 33 rear cold. Not sure what kind of suspension setup you have but that left the rear end just loose enough to throttle steer but not really oversteer with no camber correction in the back. I also run 2 runs before playing with pressures due to weather. I might see one psi movement after two full runs and then I'll decide if that 2nd run got better or if I need to bleed down. Most of the time I bled back down unless the surface was extremely rough and then I found that 35/34 from the tires heating up was good. I never had any solidarity above 36psi in Azenis on my E30. I started my season running 38 all around and played up and down until I found that on such a light car Azenis do better with low pressure.

I'll give it a shot this saturday for sure! What is your suspension like ? I am on 500front/650rear, about -2 front camber.

I was on H&R sports with 1.3 neg camber in front roughly, nothing special. Your kind of camber and rear spring rate would probably do well at lower pressures. I bet you have a tough time with corner exit's.
