I 'drifted' my e30 into the kitty litter coming out of the keyhole at Mid-Ohio.

There really wan't too much fun about it.

Actually going for fast laps on the other hand, is intense to me. And I can sit there and watch other people do it for hours... it's still exciting to me.

On the other hand, some people get their rocks off sliding their cars around, and can't stand watching a race.
I love hot lapping and regular autocrossing, I'm actually very good at it, that's where the car control skills came from to start drifting. It's actually very difficult, mostly because you are ENTERING the corner sideways, not just powering out.

The organizers and I had a little chat to make this happen, DONT DRIFT AT YOUR LOCAL AUTOCROSS children, you WILL get booted out!

Here's a pic of the fast car that comes to all the HPDE events (currently retired from track duty untill i'm done drifting):

That video posted didn't show any sideways corner entry, just straight arrow braking & whomping the throttle to power out.

Yeah, I'm sure you are good at it, I never meant to say you can only be good at, or like, one or the other. Just that you should understand it's not for everybody. Just like HPDE doesn't have much in common with w2w racing, and people may prefer one or the other, and not enjoy the other so much.

Yea, my w2w experience will be reserved for go karts. Especially ones I don't own.... :p

I'm a VERY aggressive driver, I'm sure I would have my racing lisence revoked by the end of one season, lord knows i've been kicked out of enough karting places!

I suggest you look closer, becuase after the left hander in the rear of the course, the entire back half is linked, completely. Also there are more ways to initiate a slide besides a feint, I use ebrake and clutch kicks usually, and yes I admit, I don't initiate as early as the pros do, but I'm doing pretty good for 3 months.

Maybe the in car video will show you? I only have the in car from the 1st and 4th runs which were the worst, I pressed the wrong button while trying to record the 2nd and third.

You can see me start to link it in the first one, then i did link it in the 4th but I lost it half way, the outside video is a successfull link of everything.

a few events last season i was 'drifting' a 318is with 225 hoosiers... EAT THAT

... one corner was a long left hander off camber. 30psi F 45psi R made the swap the back end out, then kick back to a 180 right, then back to a 180 left. carried the back end through the whole thing.

wasnt fast, but it was fun!

I think it's pretty hilarious when some guys say drifting is faster than regular driving. I think I was puilling like 100 second runs when the FTD was 60 something! :D

that is embarrassing, drifting at an autocross. I mean i've done some long oversteers, multiple corners on end, but the attempt of going out to drift at an autocross is lame. youre wasting everyone's time because youre slow and bound to spin (which you did) and its like advertising a driving style somewhere people have a different outlook.

Basically only if the street is too narrow to normally turn around in. The only time i've found it to be faster is on a two lane mountain road with no shoulders to turn around.
