      JGood,
Why not attach it on top of the carpet? The carpet thickness at the mounting mounts is nonexistant, no?

Also, what method did you use to line everything up and drill? Put the stuff together then drill pilots from the bottom?

You "could" take them to the track. So long as you're only doing hpde/pdx its unlikely that tech will give you a hard time... but why run something with questionable quality? There are plenty of budget minded seats ($300-400) with FIA cert. available from Momo, Sparco, etc.

Are you planning on doing some track events that i don't know about?

FWIW, i run a pair of recaro profi SPG's in the e30 m3. they make more then one size, my seats are narrow for 80% of the people that get in the car. they make a wider version for fattys ;)

I used the stock seat bracket to mark the holes on a cardboard template (because I don't like wasting good material for screwups). Then once I confirmed that everything lined up I transferred it over to the metal.

Are you looking for more seat recommendations? Have you revised your budget to include something other than a tube frame seat?

                        Yea if anyone has any.

I never really mentioned a budget.

yeah I guess you didn't mention a budget, must have been another thread.

That being said you really should go to a shop and sit in a variety of brands of seats. Personally I love my Racetech RT1000 and it is one of the cheaper options without a head restraint.

Yea, I've been reading up on seats more and it seems like the Racetech seats are touted as being a good solution for people with back problems (like me). The only problem is I haven't found a local place that stocks them.

Gonna probably go checkout Sabelt, Recaro and Momo seats at a place in North Jersey sometime soon. Titan Sabelt doesn't look bad for ~$550. Momo Super Cup for ~$600. Then there's the Recaro Pole Position for ~$650.

Should I be concerned with the passenger seat or say F'it to the instructor's comfort (and use a stock sport seat)?

If you attend a BMWCCA event, you are required to supply your passenger (the instructor) the same level of security and support as the driver.

Also, for $699 you can get the real deal Recaro SPG.

Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

Most of the clubs suggest that you should provide "similar level" of safety for the instructor as you do for yourself. I think that is wise. You are actually limited as a driver if you are in low bolster factory seats with the factory seat belts. You move around a lot and it is a strain and slows you down.

With a good seat and harness, you are more relaxed and secure. You can concentrate on going fast better so you go faster. Faster is more dangerous. Plus, if your instructor is flinging around the cabin, holding on for all they are worth, they aren't going to be worth as much as an instructor for you.

I had one instructor tell me that I really needed to get a harness system because he was worn out after riding with me. :)

So, get what you need for your seat, and then try to find something reasonable for the passenger's side. Maybe a used seat from somebody else, or a cheaper seat that is less comfortable, but perfectly serviceable.
