75 in a 55 Speeding Ticket

Here's the first problem. You were doing 20mph over the posted speed limit. This is considered exhibition of speed and wreckless driving. Everyone needs to quit side stepping around the reality of the situation. Something that no one has said is the fact that if you cant pay the fine in full, you wont be eligiable for traffic school. Which means you will have to take the points on your record and you cant go to traffic school and you'll till have to pay for the fine in full. I know this because when I was 17 I got a ticket for doing 110 in a 65 and got shafted in every which way possible. Had to take the points on my record and I couldnt take traffic school and still had to pay the fine with payments. Oh and I got the distinct pleasure of losing my license for 30 days.

All of this could very well happen to you. Even if you can pay it in full, you will more than likely lose your license for 30 days or more.

I just got my first ticket in 2 and a half years, just about a month ago. I was doing 65 in a 50. When my ticket came it was 220 for the fine then 260 for the option of taking traffic school. So in the end its going to cost me about 300 bucks. So to answer your question, dont be surprised by a 500+ dollar ticket because it is very likely to happen.


Oh and T Verdier, it takes much longer than 2 years for the points to clear off your record. try 7-10 years for them to clear.

Well if I do end up paying it will be in full. But really, they would suspend my license for more than a month for my first speeding ticket even if I'm taking traffic school?

You won't lose your license, I'm pretty sure about that.
I think the only reason E30 fiend lost it is because how much above the speed limit he got tagged for. iirc over 100 mph or double the posted speed limit is a felony/a much more serious charge.

yup hes right hella expensive ticket.your license should be fine as long as you don't have a lot of out standing tickets.

110 in 65 is drastically different from a 75 in a 55. 75 in a 55 will not get your license suspended.

It's something like 100 over in a 65 will get your license 30 day suspension, or 50% over a highway speed limit. Depending on where you live.

Like I said, 100+ or double the posted speed limit will get your license yanked.

Hes in a different state. Its likely the laws are way different. Just stick with Mariano's advice.

i got a 62 in a 45 and its 395.00 LOL my 1st speeding ticket and ive been driving a few years sucks...i have to pay by teh 4th thats a phat chunk of cash that i could use otherwise ..

oh yea i think i have to take gayness traffic school but i dont mind just taking the point , traffic school cost money
