                Paging Barry; your mentioned before about using an early model part to adapt a cone filter on a late model. What was that? Also do you think it would work to put a stock air box in a maf?

                    IIRC, early 318's had the adapter. Yes you can mount the adapter onto the air box and run the maf to that with a bit of modification (trimming).

                                84-85 318/325e used these type of airboxes. With these boxes, there is a flange screwed onto the AFM that can be used on later model M20 AFM's to run a cone filter. You can get an aftermarket kit for $100 or you can get this flange from the junkyard and figure out a way to mount the AFM to the airbox bracket.

                                                        Also I want to be smog inspection friendly.

                                                            having a cone isn't illegal. i don't think.
                                                            i've never been told so while smogging my cars anyways.
