This^^^ also make sure to put a bit of oil on the rubber seal. I used to work at a oil change spot and have seen those seals blow out on diesel trucks. talk about a mess lolFirst, don't use fram filters. Second, make sure the gasket is mated to the housing. Third, at least you know you won't overtighten and strip your drain plug. Fourth, at least you can see what your old oil looks like in case there are metal shavings, coolant mixed in, etc. Fifth, at least you KNOW for sure what oil is going in the engine.

I have to second that. Ever since I got my license (before I knew anything about cars), I would change my own oil. Took it in a few times back then and saw the aftermath of shady stuff that happened. Things like needing a breaker bar to pull drain plug, shitty drain plug gaskets, and stuff like that. Not to mention the usual shitty oil filters and stuff like that.First, don't use fram filters. Second, make sure the gasket is mated to the housing. Third, at least you know you won't overtighten and strip your drain plug. I actually had a guy try to downsale me one time when I was picking up oil and a filter. He told me "you know fram filters are like half the price of this one" I said "yeah but I don't like fram filters." He said "but it's way cheaper than this one" I said "I know. If I wanted a cheap filter, I'd get a cheap filter" lol
What choice of filters is everyone goin with btw?

I run a wix filter on my bmw, and a farm on my stude...I've never had a problem with either, change my own oil too...the oil filter for my stude has to be Fran since they are the only ones that make it

My cousin only uses wix too. On his race car and dd and he says he loves em too
Do you source them locally or on the interwebz? I'm all about that factory bizz for now since I haven't really modded anything.
I'm running castrol gtx too but need to find something for the zinc content Castrol lacks

:) This
Its not that I love them, your not going to convince me one way or another that anybody is going to see any amount of difference in their oil filter short term, sure there may be a bad one or whatever but nobody changes their oil and is like shit, must be a bad oil filter...maybe over a decade of using a bad filter eventually you may yes see a difference, but thats just me
