The only reason I want to part it is because the right strut tower is pushed in about about 2 inches. And the quater panel damage from the same accident. other than that the car is in great condition. Engine is strong and only 133k miles.
hey guys is there really a big difference between an e34 540i/6 and an m5, i've done some research and it seems like the maintenance cost and reliability are about the same and they seem to have pretty similar performance specs, id just like to here from someone that owns one
I owned an E34 M5 and it was a great fun car. Not much low end, but boy would it pull when you got on it! I sold it because I was terrified of the ///M tax on a rebuild. Most above 120k are going to need some major work and look to spend a few grand on that. I found that an E34 M5 is about a 15k car. find one for ~10 and expect to spend about 5 on it to get it right, or just spend the extra 5 up front and not worry.
Never owned/ driven a 540i/6 but Ive read they are torquey, offer MOST of the performance of the M5 and the cost is less.
let us know what you end up doing

I own a e39 540i/6 with m5 rear end. Does that count?

it seems that alot of that cost is redoing the timing stuff, which for some reason is a ton of money

I went down there and checked it out. The paint is a 10 footer, it is super low, like not fun to drive so low. AC doesnt work, a couple body panels don't line up, wheels are pretty beat up and some other panels are loose.
I went down with cash in hand and walked away. I was stoked driving down there and was pretty disappointed. I think at $6,000 you have a deal. Not to mention it is a salvage title.
Oh ya, he has no papers on the car to back up any maintenance.
He has had it on ebay and it went for $7,000 and $7,500.
