I flew home to Ohio last week for a funeral and was quickly reminded how much I dislike cold weather.

Borrowed my best friends Subie with new snow studded snow tires. Hit a gnarly patch of black ice mid corner, spun to a ditch and rolled it.

    Whoops

I almost drove off a cliff when I spun on black ice. I had no idea how far down the ground was until I was standing over the edge digging out the snow. I can sympathize. Better to roll in a ditch than a cliff.

But hey, at least the Subie's passenger's side panels are okay! The rest should buff out.

Yea I had a few bruises and re-tweeked my back a bit. Which really sucked since I was a pallbearer at my grandmothers funeral. I showed up with muddy pants and a wet shirt but at least I made it!

Insurance wise...I tried to get my insurance to cover it since my E30 is still registered and insured back home...but they wouldnt and his insurance agent said it follows the car so it was claimed on his. Bummer.

It's totalled. The passenger side is all sorts of beat up. Rear quarter panel got the brunt of the damage, the roof has a crease in it. It was something like $7200 in sheet metal alone not including paint or the rear suspension which was bent to hell and back. I have to pay his deductible but it is what it is. We were laughing about it and he was just out here for the supercross. He actually hated the car so it works out well

So I'm flying to LA in March for a job offer, I've been told there are hamburgers I should eat while I'm in town. What else should I check out? Job is in Torrance.

Yeah, the cost of living is much higher, but it seems like the salary compensates for it pretty well.

I like the cheap cost of living where I am, but the job looks amazing and I'd never have to deal with seasonal depression again pretty much, so that's cool

I assume you're referring to the cliché In-N-Out Double-Double "Animal Style" burger. Lucky for you, most of our car meets are held next to one!

You may look for residency in the neighboring city of Gardena, it's more affordable than Torrance. I live in Torrance thanks to my parents already being here but on my own I'd definitely want to look for a roommate.

Also, check out the beach and the nightlife by the piers. You don't have to like it but see what it's like. I don't know anything about Tennessee but I know it doesn't have an ocean!

Some good driving roads out east, lax vehicle registration / inspection laws (some counties don't even have emissions testing) and our politicians sure do hate science and them queers.

                                Thanks for the recommendations!

So uh, I'm guessing an itb'd M52 swapped e30 will be a hard thing to get legal in CA? Guess I'm gonna have to keep it registered in TN or something lol
