The diff is never the cause of a vibration unless the gears inside got unaligned or something stupid which then would cause fluid to piss out or explode inside.
He did something wrong upon installation.

I'm betting it's the driveshaft. Tell him to check his CSB. When he removed the rear driveshaft bolts to allow for a diff change, the CSB could have been very weak and caused a tear while the back half "hung" down, assuming he didn't string it up.
